Drilling a 4" deep weight bolt hole and used a bit one size larger than required, leaving me with no wood left for tapping.
Soo, I needs to fill it and do it all over.
Question is: Can I use epoxy that I have lying around or do I need to visit Lowes for some kind of wood filler?
Appreciate your input on what to use to fill the hole and what I can do to reduce brain farts.
 
What about filling the hole with liquid nails, grease up the weight bolt, shove it in and let it cure. The grease should keep the bolt from setting to the liquid nails.

Just some outside the box thinking.
 
Turn a dowel the appropriate size and glue it in with Gorilla Glue...

I doubt it will be the last time you make a mistake. Might as well get used to fixing them correctly...
 
Re-drill it to 1/2 by 4" and plug it up with a maple plug with
glue grooves and slow epoxy. Threaded would be better.
1/2 diam. gets you a wall for your 3/8 weight bolt and you
minimize the chance of rattle later on.

Great advise... I just want to add one thing.

Shape the end of the plug the same as your drill. Drills are not usually square on the end and plugs can be if you cut them square.

This will prevent a void at the bottom of the hole.

I also file a small flat on one side of the plug for glue relief.

Is there a specific reason you are wanting to plug the whole length? Why not just make a phenolic insert with about an inch of thread and then let the other 3 inches just be clearance? If the bolt is tight it shouldn't rattle.

Because, if dried epoxy breaks off and gets into the void, the cue will sound like a tamborine.

Duhhh...

Geeez, of course: plug the damn hole with a maple dowel and redrill it.
Why can't I come up with such obvious solutions? That is a rhethorical question: it's because I'm lacking in the cranial capacity area.

^^that is what I meant, but didn't really say at all^^
 
Once, I ASSidentally bored a ebony butt sleeve just a little too big.
I plugged it with a maple dowel and re bored. It has a pretty little maple sleeve in it now.
