I was looking into purchasing a new j pechaur pool not sure on the model but whatever model i get wil include a predator shaft. Anyway what is the hit like is it a hard hitting cue or a softer hit? How is the weight placed and is it adjustable. thanks

have two jp's...bought 'em both used,,,,one's a breaker with a Sumo tip; other one a shooter with a Triumph tip,,,,plan to keep both, if that's an indication of my preferences...?

Your putting a Predator shaft on the cue. The hit should be about the same as anyone that has a predator shaft with the same tip. What kinda tip are you putting on?

Im sure this is a large debated issue on here and Im new so maybe someone can direct me to an old thread before I get carried away.

IMO.
The hit starts at the top of the cue and after about 12 inches all the other bells and whistles don't seem to matter much.

Now Im not saying that there is a feeling of difference between cues. What Im really saying is, Predator shafts on different butts feel about the same. The only big difference is balance and weight.

imo that is not a totaly correct statment if i understand you correctly.the joint and butt section affect the "feel of the hit"as much as the shaft.i have written this before but i have 2 cues from 2 makers, and 1 predator shaft that i switch between the 2 cues, night and day in the hit.believe it or not.joo.

i have played with a predator shaft on my madden.. plays pretty nice in my opinion.. then when i put the same exact shaft on my mottey.. i dont like it at all.. so i dont believe its all in the shaft... i believe shafts have alot to do with the hit.. but there is alot of other things that go into it as well.. all the way down to the way the forearm is jointed to the handle and the handle is jointed to the buttsleeve.. hell .. i think changing the buttcap to something esle can directly change the way a cue hits... maybe not as much as changing the joint material.. but i think it will cause a change..

I agree somewhat...the Predator shaft levels things out a lot, but the butt and joint affect the hit, also. The balance, taper, type joint, type of wrap (or lack of it), whether full splice or not, as well as the shaft determine the hit and, another important factor, feedback from the cue....IMHO.

yes that's right. the joint type, forearm wood type, forearm construction and material used, wether it be spliced v-groove or floating and how the it's attached to the handle play a big role in the hit of a cue. there isn't any one way that makes the hit better. a great hit can be done with any of these methods. great makers know what to adjust and where in different methods to achieve the hit they desire.

I just bought a 314 - 3/8 10 shaft from coryc. I put it on 3 McDermotts and it just did not feel right on 2 of them, but it felt really good and balanced on my D12.

I also have a 314 with a uni-loc joint on a Lucasi butt, which hits and plays awesome. I tested the feel of the shaft on 12 Lucasi cues. It happened to be one of the cheaper models that felt the best to me with the 314 on it. I guess it is just a matter of preference and feel of a cue, when you pick it up it just feels good and right for you.

Originally I did not think it would make such a big difference between butts from the same cue maker. But it really does, at least for me it did.

Imo Preds hit better with stainless steel jointed cues.
It hits soft as it is. Having soft joint collars and woods make them hit even softer.

JP/Predator shaft

At any rate you will like that Predator shaft 1000 times better than the original JP shaft. Good luck.

I don't know which I hate more. Every Pred shaft I have ever hit with feels hollow, and every Peach I have ever hit with felt exactly like a McDirt. Buy a custom cue.

i own a pechaeur with a 314 shaft and i think its great , you get a solid hit and get a nice feel with it. The joint on mine is one of the custom pechaeur speed joints.

Hope this helps , Jonny

Whatever pechaur model I buy will have a fiber or wood to wood. I want something that doesn't have a stainless joint this time. I currently play with a rich benson custom with a predator shaft. The hit on the cue is hard but it is due to my benson have a 1" in stainless joint I think instead of his standard 1/2" stainless joint. But anyways I'm looking into a fiber jointed Pechaur. Here is pic of my Rich Benson joint, its differrent with the big joint. Its differrent to anyone who has seen or has knowledge of Benson's cues.
