I sympathize with Billy Thorpe

In some ways I feel bad for Billy because all of us have lost our tempers from time to time- we're just fortunate enough it wasn't recorded (we all have to be more cautious now- like it or not). If I were a Cuetec executive I might have been inclined to give him a stern warning- letting him know that was his only warning and that the next violation would result in a loss of sponsorship, but of course it was their decision to make and I can understand it- especially if the goal is to make pro pool indeed more professional.

PR save Billy marching at a LGBTQ event rocking the cue tec brand. with full mullet on display

Ok, and who’s going to pay ESPN to have pool shown? How are you going to get sponsors to pony up the cash when you have after hours bar fights on display?

So yes, you can have pool on ESPN tomorrow if you can get sponsors to pay for it.

televise the bar fights, the line of sponsors would be longer than the line in LA for covid shots

Cuetec/Imperial probably makes so much from its Asian and European sales that it doesn’t care about any kind of boycott/backlash in the American market.

This was good! First of all Billy seemed sincerely apologetic about his behavior the other night and committed to doing something about it. I think he realizes now that he may have a problem with alcohol and that he is also a public figure in the pool world, one of the best players in this country. I wish him the best in the future and would like to see him put this one critical error in judgement behind him. Everyone deserves a second chance!

I was very impressed with Joey Ryan's interview abilities. He looks like a seasoned vet the way he handled that entire podcast. I also was impressed with Chad Sholders, the man responsible for the tournament and the challenge matches that are being held there. He comes across as a mature man with some good sense about him. I'm glad to see people like him doing things to bring more good pool to the masses who love the game.

With enough people out there like Joey and Chad I feel the future of our sport is well served. After all these years I somehow still believe that the day will come when pool is recognized for the enormous skill it takes to play the game at a high level, and that the players are compensated commensurate to their abilities as poolplayers. No question there has been progress in the last few years, only slowed by the pandemic that affected all sports as well as our entire social structure.

Basic rules:
- Non-breaker randomizes the balls
- Breaker racks his own (may not change ball positions)
- Breaker shoots after his own legal break (ball on the break is not required)
- Alternate breaks

We have run hundreds of tournaments, including pro events with these rules over the last 12 years. We even run all of our Eight-Ball leagues without a ball-on-the-break requirement.

Set strategies aside. The human dynamic benefits are enormous. Matches run smoother and faster. The players get along with one another much better. Players can concentrate on their game without stressing over the rack. Players have a sense of trust in the rules in that they are simple, fair, and equitable.

These rules have gone a long way in bringing out the best in everyone (including Billy Thorpe). I enjoy the players and running my events.

how badly was billy losing to robb?

I am not excusing the behavior, its just maybe there should be a mercy rule or breaks in long matches.

Mosconi Cup player sweating small action

What type of training does Team USA do?

When you share your thoughts about various pool-related happenings, I listen. American pool, with all its warts and blemishes, was suffering long before this event, yet you seem to always have a sparkle in your eye when it comes to your passion for the game/sport. We may not agree on different aspects of the game, and that's okay. But I know that you love American pool deep in your heart and want it to flourish. I just want to say thank you for being you. You're an asset to pool, to this forum, and to us all.

Responsible for what?

He's an on scene reporter...if things get real then the fans deserve a front row seat. Players and tournaments get money from these streamers which not only allow us to see events for free or peanuts, but help keep the money for running events going as well.

If a player is gonna make and ass of himself, it isn't on the streamer.

If you station broadcasts slurs on the open internet for everyone to see.

then you are broadcasting hate speech

FCC regulations don't apply to internet videos

It is a violation of federal law to air obscene programming at any time. It is also a violation of federal law to broadcast indecent or profane programming during certain hours. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) defines indecent speech as material that, in context, depicts or describes sexual or excretory organs or activities in terms patently offensive as measured by contemporary community standards for the broadcast medium.
