I think it is a Good Idea! - Pool Shoes.

Pool shoes are a great idea, snapshot...I received the same crap as you're getting when I mentioned the idea a while back.

The main functional feature would be non-slippage material from the ball of the feet to the toes so when leaning waaaay over the table the player's foot won't slip on the floor. Maybe then the general public wouldn't think of us as "slippery" characters! :D :D

As far as having Efren's picture on it: Too gay for me, but a nice logo or design would be OK.

What did Nike, et al say?

Pool shoes are silly..

I don't think so. I've thought for many years that a pool/billiard shoe was a good idea. Personally, I'm very particular about the shoes I wear when playing pool. To play my best, that is. Workboots, cowboy boots, loafers, docksiders/top siders, moccasins, slippers, flip flops, bare feet, etc. We've all done them, and you know as well as I do that you can't perform as well in one set of foot wear compared to another. Sure, we can play, but when it comes to a real tournament, I'm not going to wear just anything.

I know Deno espouses the virtue of Mephisto shoes. I play my best in New Balance 620's. I'd be interested in what other people wear on their feet for serious playing.

And don't get me started on shirts.

To date, Jeff, Reebok, Nike, or Deno has not got back to me regarding the
idea. I was working on sending the idea to a company in Hong Kong. The
Chinese will not think it is silly. They will probably make them, cheaply,
and make a bundle off of it. And I think it was Rockport. That's what is wrong with Americans today, all they do is sit around and *****. That is partly why jobs are going overseas now. Unions used to be an asset, now
they are a drawback to our economy as a whole. When I heard a skilled
worker on the line at GM, with no college degree, was making 44 something
an hour, in Detroit, in the union, it makes you wonder just how much is a
certain skilled job worth to a company? Part loaders making 25-26 dollars
an hour is ridiculous. We are fastly living up to some other countries opinions of us as being 'Fat, lazy, arrogant Americans'. We are going to end up being
a 3rd world country that is broke if we don't change out attitude.

How about pool socks, to allow your feet to breath properly.........LOL

:D

Now this is a great idea. Why hasn't anyone ever thought of this before.
IPT socks, the winning difference.
Actually, back in 80s, someone had some shoes for pool players out in Reno. I'm not sure, but I think George Micheals had them.

Actually, I overheard a few pool players discussing the topic of pool shoes recently.

Some high-profile venues require a male player to wear leather shoes and no sneakers. It was stated that many brands of dress leather shoes for men are uncomfortable to shoot pool in, much less stand on your feet all day long during a tournament.

The important features the players agreed on were that the shoes must be lightweight and comfortable, but most important, it is imperative that they have traction on the bottom of the shoe to prevent slippage, made of rubber.

Having experienced shoe-shopping recently for men's dress shoes, I realize that dress shoes and playing pool poses a problem for some male pool players.

Those leather sole loafers don't work well at all. They are too slick. Stretch out just right for shot, loose traction, and DING DONG!

I used to love playing bare footed.......

Waaaaaaay Back in the early '60's (hippy days) I used to play all the time in bare feet. I loved it. There was something about it that made me more energetic and quick. During long sessions back then, I would take a break and wash my face, hands and put my foot (one at a time) into the toilet and flush. It was very refreshing and I could play for hours that way.
Way later in life, I told Louie about this because he sometimes would be playing for days on end. After a couple of days (in the same shoes and socks), there could be an odor. He liked the idea so much that he started doing it even when only playing for 6 or 8 hours.
Now I just wear NB walking shoes - and not for long.

...then again, maybe I haven't heard it all....

even Deno about this idea. If Kevin was to develop this,
he could have signature IPT shoes, and perhaps recover
some of his capital outlay for the IPT tour.

Lots of variety could be done as far as dressing them up
and the styles. Crossed lil cues, little figures shooting,
8 and 9 balls on them, or a trio of different balls, IPt logo,

Imagine a neat pair with a photo type image of Efrren on
the top looking at you or shooting as someone walked up to you.

It seems like a nice finishing touch for a 'Pool outfit', something
that really might catch on with teenagers and early 20's crowd
for casual wear.

(yes, I like my shoes to look good with my clothes, I have
dark blue denim shoes, gray leather casual shoes, dark tan suede shoes, you get the idea ... lol)

Of course, they would have to be comfortable, and padded
REAL WELL. I think it is a money maker. What do you think?

I know every pool player would buy at least 1 pair for each of
his or her family ... lol

Anyone remember John Zaksas "Pool Shoes". They were red sneakers with a 9-Ball on them...I guess thats why he named his pool room "Red Shoes" Billiards. <wow, am I that old?>

JAM, I have two pairs of shoes that I use strictly for playing pool... nothing "groupie" about them, but they're comfortable. One pair is a pair of Merrell's that look like a climbing shoe of sorts. Comfortable? They're almost like wearing socks with soles on them. The other pair, I just recently got, is a pair of Ecco. They sure are ugly, but they feel the same on my feet at the end of an all day tournament that they did at the beginning. Might not smell as good, but they feel as good. What's nice about Ecco is that they come in everything from hiking boot styles, to dress shoe styles, and they're all basically built the same... for long wear comfort.

One other thing is socks... someone made a laughing comment about socks, but I bought about a dozen pair of socks that are designed for diabetics. Whoa... you talk about take the comfort zone up another notch!!!

Anyways, a poolplayer has to be comfortable, especially in a marathon set or a tournament where you're going to be shooting off and on from 10AM to well into the wee hours. Critics, scoff as you wish, but I'll wear shoes that keep my old feet comfortable.

Later,
Bob

I have wide feet, so off the rack stuff don't fit. I buy shoes from high end stores, mocassins from Maine, and hiking boots from New Hampshire.

Have a couple of pairs of shoes to use when I play:

Alan Edmonds with rubber soles/heels for the high style games; expensive, but they can be rebuilt for the the price of a pair of inferior el cheapos.

Hi-Tec shoes that are built like hiking boots with a steel shank, insoles, and a grippy tread. Great traction for rocky trails or pool halls. Infinitely superior construction compared to New Balance, Nike et al.

I'm kind of partial to 60's/70's type running shoes before the got all this extra pointless motion control garbage on them.
However, they'll always be a soft spot in my heart for the old Converse Allstars from back when basketball had rules.

TY & GL OldHasBeen : Now you did it !!! do you realize what you have done now ???? when these young kids read your post some will mimmick your ways......i',m just thinking now of all these poor youngsters sticking their feet in a toilet to refresh themselves after 30 minutes of play !!!!!!!!!!!! LOL LOL LOL

All you sore-footed sharks with fancy cues and Payless shoes have two choices:

Learn to shoot fast like Salvas & Drago: or

Find more talented competition.

Either alternative will getyou more time to sit in your chair giving your poor little footsies a rest.:D

Anyone ever tried Dr. Scholl's Memory Fit Customizing Insoles? It really makes playing pool comfortable to the feet JMHO.

I've always wanted to buy those Brunswick bowling shoes, they look comfortable and it has the Brunswick logo on it. But the thing is it has that pad on the bottom-front end of the sole that's for bowling purposes. I've never had the chance to talk to a shoe maker/repairer about it - if it can be converted to a regular sole.

I read this earlier today and then went to the pool hall. We have a guy down here who will go for a red light. So, I told him about flushing the feet routine. Another guy standing close by backed me up on it, so I think we sold him.
The first time he went to the mens room, 3 guys followed him. They said he stood in the stall for about 3 minutes and finally came out. I surely hope I'm the one to bust him.
This is the same guy who dreamed he played Jesus Christ. He said, "man, that dude can really play"!
