I am looking to upgrade my Cue Case to leather, and will be replacing an old e-bay special 2 x 4 Pro Case that has serve me well for a couple of years.

But the Pro Case needs to be replaced as the zippers work sometimes, and the Case's exterior has too much Duck Tape holding the case together as it suffers from failing seams.

I am considering either a 2 x 4, or 3 x 6 from Whitten, Justis, Murnak, or OnQCase but have only seen the Justis & OnQCase in person. Leaning kind of towards a Justis.

Have only seen the Whitten's & Murnak Cases on their web-sites.

If you were in my shoes would you go with a 2 x 4, or 3 x 6 Case, and why?

If I knew what you knew based upon current ownership, or previous ownership of a Whitten, Justis, Murnak, or OnQCase What Case would you chose to purchase again and why?

Welcome to AZB Cuestick

I'm not familiar with th OnQcase brand. Personally I don't think you could go wrong with a Justis, Whitten or Murnak. Each has a unique style and all
3 are beautifully made, will attract admiring looks and protect your cues well.

Which one appeals to you is what's important. Do a google search for each brand and check out the features and costs. They each have nice websites.

I prefer the Whitten myself. Sold a Justis to get my first Whitten 2 X 4. Didn't like the Justis square pockets with zipper "slits" to access stuff. Whitten uses a soft, supple apparel quality leather. Justis leather is thicker, tougher and is worked beautifully. Always liked the look of the Murnaks but never personally seen one out here in the sticks.

Good luck in your search.View attachment 35562

I have a Whitten and a Justis 2X4. I find the Whitten lighter to carry, and getting into the pockets are easier compared to the Justis as Jigger pointed out. It basicly comes down to what you like, the contemperary vs traditional look. Either way you cannot go wrong.

I would chose the 3 X 6 in case you expand your playing cues or carry an extra from time to time. As for the case itself, there is no question I would go with the OnQ, as I own a 3 X 6 myself. It is the last and best case you will ever need.

I would go with a Whitten or a Murnak. Whitten in a 2x4 and a Murnak in a 3x6 and I have 1 of each. They both have great quality to them, you can't go wrong with either one you choose. I like the slimness to the Whitten cases, and Murnak I like the ease of getting in and out of the pockets. I have a 3x6 Vintage style Murnak, it has a different style than than everybody else's.

I've had my hands on Justis and Whitten, and I've looked with interest at Murnak and OnQ pics, and I have to say they're all very very very nice. As stated above, pick the one you like best...ya can't go wrong.
If I wasn't so goofy about doing things myself, I would buy a Whitten. But, the others you mention are at least as nice. Fun decision. Good luck.

Never tell anyone that you are confused---tell them you are drunk. You can always sober up but there is no cure for "stupid".

Get the 2x4. That is all you will ever need to carry. The 3x6 is too bulky and you will find heavy when loaded up.

3x6 is honestly more than anybody needs for everyday use.... JMO.

I have owned a Murnak for the past two years and absolutely love it. Best case I've owned, and I think I have about 6. My favorite is a black It's George, though.... :p

Cases

I kind of a thing for Cases and Jumpcues, and have researched both extensively. On Cases:

1) Sit down and make out a list of what is important to you in a case.
2) Weight how important each item is too you. For me, Convenience of Use
is an important daily item. That means how easy is it to get my shafts and butts in and out. How easy is it to use the pockets, and to organize them with stuff. Also, how heavy is it loaded or partially loaded? Shoulder strap hurt your shoulder? Is it a good handle easy on the hand? Jump butt pocket? Is small pocket big enough? (like to put a pen in it, business cards, sandpaper, chalk, bridge head, etc..). How well does it protect your cues?
Can it handle JP's?
3) How good looking is it? Can it be personalized?

4) Then prioritize the list, and look for cases that fit your list the best.

I have a tendency to like cases that have a little extra room, just in case, rather than outgrowing a case in a couple of months. Everyone has to zone in on the right size case for them. I have owned most sizes of cases except a 2 x 4. 4 x 8 was too big and too damn heavy. The right size case for me is a 3 x 5 case because often in big tournaments or like in Nationals, you might want to carry 2 playing cues, and I carry a break/jump cue with 2 shafts, or other combinations.

To a certain degree, case sizes can parallel with how good a player might be, and having backup equipment in case of emergencies in Pool events.

And lastly, be ABSOLUTELY SURE of all relevant details of the case before buying. You don't want to spend a bunch of money on a case only to find out something about it is not right for you.

I dunno Ross, I think I may have to disagree. I've had to go to a 3x5.
1 slot for J/B cue
1 slot for main (old standby) playing cue
and 1 slot for rotating whatever new cue I've picked up this month to try and replace my main playing cue.

It is kind of a bear to lug around though. And mine's a lightweight POS. Cant imagine how much of a pain it would be to deal with if it was actually a nice heavy case loaded with 3 cues and 5 shafts.

Now, if you can man up and choose a single playing cue and single break cue and STICK WITH THEM, then a 2x4 would be fine. And you'd be a step ahead of most of us!

I like the current case I'm using better than any I"ve tried. I bought a semi-hard Silver Fox case and removed the cue sleeves. I added 2 butt tubes and 3 shaft tubes from a hard case... taped them together for better organization.

This case is lighter weight than any of the hard cases I've tried yet has virtually the same protection. It has much more pocket room and there is more than enough room in the cue compartment for my cue extension, a towel, or most anything else I might reasonably want to carry.

All the features I want: Protection. Lots of cue space. Lots of pocket space. Room for a cue extension. Leight weight. And, it's rather unremarkable in appearance and, imo, much less likely to attract a thief.

I was just in your shoes, I just purchased another new case giuseppe case with my name embrioded on it, directly from giuseppe. I really fell in love with Whitten Cases. By the way a I ordered a 3x6. I can use the extra space for another cue I might carry. Any how Whitten Cases is for a life time. There's a pretty strong player here locally that has a couple of their cases and they look really good and one is over ten years old. I decided to with the lower cost case, I MARRIED with kids, I figured I could use the other $300 for family things. However if it was just me and could afford it I would have gone for the whitten. Have heard alot of good things about Justis Cases also, he had a killer one at the Derby a few weeks back.

Something to think about

The Case that interests me most is the Murnak Case. I have never seen one in person, but his web-site has some excellent example of what Murnak is capable of doing with his Pool Cue Cases.

Also as I understand it Murnak uses a heavy weight saddle/holster grade leather, and OnQCase & Whitten use a chrome tanned leather that is similar in weight to what you find on fine leather furniture.

I think a Pool Cue Case has more potential for abuse than a Leather Soft.
