I won - but I feel like a lost?

I just spent the past few hours playing a couple of guys in 8 ball. Races to 4 and $20 for each set. I ended up 5 sets in the end.

The strange thing is - I feel worse than any other match I have lost, even when I have lost a few hundred dollars in the past??!? :(

I don't know if it is because I played so poorly or because I knew it was easy money, but I also feel now that my game has taken another dive from this episode...

Any ideas guys?

"Thats pride f'n with you......" Pulp Fiction.....
But anyway, you are thinking too much about it. If you feel you played poorly, or not up to your standards. Accept it, move on, and be happy you walked away with the money. Just make sure to work on the areas you feel you were lacking in. If you continue to gamble, you will have many more occasions where you feel like you dodged a bullet. Sometimes you did, sometimes your opponent shoots themselves in the foot. Either way, feel no regret about it. Use it as a positive, and learn what you can from it.
And quit thinking so much..... ;)

been there

I have been there, probably most on here have. I have played like dirt and others insisted on playing worse and I walked away with the cash or even won small events. I accept that it was my day to win but I don't kid myself about my performance. By the same token I have been playing very well and gotten hammered. Some days go like that too and I don't beat myself up about them.

Separate your performance from how you finish and however you perform remember that this is how you did this time. If you aren't happy with it there is no reason to consider it the beginning of a slump. Say "Wow, I sure played like I had never held a stick before" if you must, then forget about it and move on. This was one isolated event, no reason to consider it more than that.

Well

Your opponents had a bad day, so $80 of that is a gift, and only $20 was earned by your performance ....

There ..... feel better now!!!

I've had matches like that in both money and tournament situations. Games like it seemed that you almost did everything possible to hand the game to your opponent on a platter, yet you still somehow came away with the win. I just got to the frame of mind eventually that when it comes to pool, it doesn't have to be pretty as long as it's a win. If you played like crap and still got away with it, then your opponenet played even worse, and that's what's most important. However ugly it might have been, you still played good enough for the situation at hand, and that's all that counts.

You will continue to feel bad about it until you resolve the issue. I volunteer to take the $100 from you to relieve you of this burden. I have paypal.

yup

Today was our monthly tournament here in Okinawa we had 8 players no entry fee and the payout was 200,100,50 and 20 bucks.I end up finishing 2nd.I start playing this guy for 20 bucks 4 sets later we are even and raise it to 50,so I am real motivated and win 5-2,5-1.He says raise it to 100 of course I agree and we start a race to 9.He wins 9-6 and says he has to leave,it wasn't just the 200 but how he won it 5 of my 7 breaks were dry and he combo'd in the 9 within 2 shots of my break 4 times! Sorry if this is off topic I just wanted to vent.THANKS

I have had that feeling too. It usually comes when I barely win a set against someone who is vastly inferior in skill. It begins to eat me up inside, I keep thinking that the game should never have been so close. Though I get in this state of mind when playing lesser players that I think I should beat them 7-0.

Do you feel bad cuz you robbed them? Sounds to me like you ought to pick
on a bigger dog or give up a handicap to heal your conscience.

If you knew you were hustling them and this is not your nature then just give them their money back (minus table time if you paid it) and the situation is resolved.

Money bar matches ain't serious competitions. The key is to come out in front and not make any enemies. You may have to make some good shots here and there, but if you're thinking like it's tourney time then you're not in the right place.

The guys probably didn't have much game so u shouldn't even consider trying to floor them with great pool. You know you have the upper hand, so at least try to entertain them.

Grab that cash with both hands and make a stash!

Don't you worry at all. I'm sure there will be those days when you leave and say, 'How the hell did I lose?' after playing well and making great shots. I finished up 4 sets today on someone that should've beaten me squarely. We each made awful mistakes, but luckily I made the most of a handicapped 3-5 race. Even won the final 4-5 race with a 4-2.

Plus, if someone loses $20 sets as easily as it sounds, then they're just holding it out for whoever comes along. If you're having a problem winning easy money, stop betting. Your matches aren't going to all be nail-biters and such, so accept you'll win some, lose some, take and get taken every once in a while.

Maybe not in Shanghai!......but it can get REAL serious when you win against someone with a few too many drinks in them....and a room full of "friends"
