Mike bender won the collector award with a beautiful piece, congrats!!Richard black won peoples choice!! congrats. But after the show some heated discussion between black and thomas wayne on who could do the most creative cue was giving me chills !!and this could be a incredible battle if we could let them do it!!  :D

I think they should have a showdown and the winner gets the losers cue.

Iccs show

I think that could be a dead heat. My personal favorite at the show was Thomas's imitation of a Lonestar beer bottle. Never saw a joint protector with a bottle cap before. Style points to McWorter's ebony and silver road map of Texas. Samsara did ratchet up the engraving game, never saw engraving done directly into wood before. The Vietnam War memorial cue in the Walton Collection was probably the best done theme cue I've every seen. The ring work to match campaign ribbon, peace doves intersected by concertina wire. And the "House of the rise sun" inlays really captured the era. But having the display stand made out of black granite, just like the real memorial in D.C. was truly inspirational. Dave and Brandon Jacoby really out did themselves on that one.
Although the crowd was a little thin, the quality of the work was truly world class.

Similar story. You could actually pay me $4 grand to play with a Richard Black and I wouldn't take you up on it.

JMO

Creativity vs Playability

Nobody beats TW with the CNC... At least (IMO). But my Richard Black is one of the best playing cues I have ever owned though. Wasn't it Thomas Wayne who said "...if you buy one of my cues to play with, you are buying for the wrong reason." ?? Shouldn't creativity be based upon a foundation of top playability first? Also, I have seen how hard Richard works to achieve a goal. Let the public or collectors set the line but I'll bet all my Vbucks on Black to win.

IMO, I have over $1,000,000.00 in cues and you can double that in cues ran thru my fingers and I play wit a richard Black. I think that trumps your oppinion:D

Actually Bill, all that means is that you have $1 million in cues and a lot of money invested in Blacks that probably don't play well. :D Not to mention a large chunk of change that was invested in a solid ivory Black that cracked on day one of the Super Billiards Expo last year. That sounds like quality to me!!!

Nothing personal Bill but I'm entitled to my opinion as are you. But owning $1 million in cues doesn't mean that you're the authority on what's good and what isn't. And it certainly doesn't make your taste any more valid than mine. But good try though.

Bill is a good man. However having a large collection does not make you a good player either nor give you the ability to say which cue plays better. However it is your God given right to have an opinion regardless of your cue collection. (size if you will!) lol But, everybody here could argue about this for ever and never agree. I would not keep either one to play with!

I never said that Bill wasn't a good man. I am simply stating that Bill's ego and ignorance in thinking that his 'million dollar plus' cue collection makes him an authority on what is and what isn't good. It most certainly does not.

Bill is a man of faith. He believes heavily in the word of God. I for one, do not. I prefer things that are more tangible. My faith is in that of man, his words, and his actions. So I will quote not from the bible, but from Mark Twain instead. I feel it is rather appropriate considering Bill's notion that knowledge on a subject is directly related to dollar value invested in that subject.

"All you need in this life is ignorance and confidence, and then success is sure."

Again, this is not intended as a personal attack against Bill. Its merely my way of refuting his claim that the dollar value of his investment does NOT increase his knowledge on that subject. Just buying cues based on their name and their price tag does NOT make you an authority.

This is apparant by the simple fact that he claims Richard Black's cues play second to none!

my statment when made is to counter on a blanket statment, that pharro made . about all richards cues playing like poop. cannot be valid ! cause hit is subjective. and he would be calling all the world class players iddiots, that play with his cues. i prefer to play with his cues because of balance point, taper, tip and resonation(sound). but to make a blanket statment about ANY cue maker is harmful and not valid. and all i stated was i have access to any cue on the planet and i chose to show up with one of richards cues! simple but true. to all have a nice day

You guys hear that?! Its the sound of Bill trying to back-pedal.

If he had just taken half a second to go back to my original post, it would be plain to see that I NEVER made a statement saying that all Richard Black cues hit like 'poop'.

This is what I said:
"Similar story. You could actually pay me $4 grand to play with a Richard Black and I wouldn't take you up on it.

JMO  "

Now, if you look even closer, you'll see that the last part of the post is three simple letters... JMO. What that means is Just My Opinion.
So you see Capt. Smarty-Pants, I am merely stating that I do not like Richard Black cues. I dislike the way they look AND play.

And don't try to make it out like you were simply stating that you like Richard's cues. You and I and everyone else who stumbles upon this thread knows that your intention was to imply that your are more of an authority than I because so many cues pass through your hands. Owning or dealing 100s of cues means nothing if you don't know a thing about them or even how to use them.

Lots of Love,
B
