Ideas for my new basement pool room

I'm thinking about doing acid stained concrete. My allergies can't abide carpet.

Consider battleship linoleum....



It’s tough and very cleanable...
..get it in tiles....only certain areas will wear ...why replace everything?

I don’t know your square footage but try to have as few support posts as possible. I had no problems when I just had an 8 ft table but when I added a 10 ft snooker table I needed about 6 more inches of width when I moved my 8 foot table to the other side of the room. I stained my concrete floor sky blue, looks great with my green table cloths. I’ve thought about putting thin rubber flooring around the tables to go easier on the feet and occasional flying balls. I studied Dr. Dave’s link describing the “spot on the wall” aiming method and I put pictures or other discrete marks on the wall or on the ceiling to have reference marks for almost all 1,2, or 3 rail kicks.

Awesome idea about the marks. My wife is an artist and I was wondering having her stencil notched diamond's, etc on the walls, now I will know where to put some of them...great idea!

Nice, I'll put cork into the realm of consideration.

Carpet squares is the way to go. If you buy some extras, you'll have replacements just in case you wear any out, and they are simple to replace.

I've got a 9' table...have a chance to pick up the 60" diamond light for a fair price. Would it be completely foolish to hang this light (designed for the 7' table) over the 9' table? Thinking about the other lighting already installed may work as supplemental table light?

Should I just get one or two of those new LED panels?

Can't wait to get my table set up again...5 or 6 months away...:banghead:

I have a single 2x4' LED on a 9ft'. It isn't perfect, but more than adequate. I'm happy with it.

I built my room from the ground up. I literally dug the foundation with a shovel and a pick. Me and my brother in law did everything but lay the carpet. As far as lighting I got two 4ft lights from the building supply and we attached them to the ceiling and they work just fine. The table has more light than any table with a Diamond light. I paid about $40 a piece for them.

If possible a separate entrance, I never liked having pool friends walk through the house lol keep em separate! Also a door gives the smokers easy access to outside!

They make all kinds of great carpet squares now, lets you do a lot of different things in the future without moving the table.

or lay a base of tile or wood for the table and carpet around it if you want carpet

If you are someone who does not want or appreciate used or vintage items (or doesn't have the skills or time to recondition them), then skip this post--it's not for you.

Since you have a year to deal with this, I suggest you start going to estate sales and inventory auctions in your area. Although I no longer have a pool room in my place after downsizing and moving for retirement purposes, how many homerooms have you seen with a 1927 Royal Chicago Products bench test stool and a near pristine Toledo Chair Company mid '50's bench test stool for visitors to sit on and use? Unfortunately these now sit a my breakfast counter which of course nobody really uses.

Now you can buy those on eBay and resale websites at premium prices, but they will probably not be reconditioned and/or refinished as carefully as if you can do them yourself.

Estate sale basements are loaded with lifetime collections of game room and bar room decor at near give-a-way prices as compared to the prices at resale or antique shops.

And I agree that you should make a display for your blanks. I have one more blank to get and my collection will be complete. People will be more attracted to looking at the blanks than your cues because they've never seen them before.

A friend suggested what turned out to be a great idea for my (previous) room. We used slat-wall (retail store fixture material) as chair-rail on the walls. Then by using standard slat-wall hooks you can put cue-holders, beer-shelves, or whatever wherever you want along the wall.

Here are some exterior pics of the new pool room in the works (with house above it for the missus). I think its rather playful and fun. And I finally get a walkout basement and a pond. Always wanted a pond. And I've planted 131 trees and shrubs so far (you can see a few tobacco stakes with tree guards). Life is pretty good.
