Hey Peeps,

Where would you recommend? I am drooling with all the cool pics and stories I have seen from VF and Derby City. If I am the kind of fan that wants to see some action, but really wants to see a lot of custom cues, trading, cue builders come out, where do I go? Any other big events?

Where would you want to go?

Cheers!

My own funeral....no..lolol......only kidding.... i would finally want to make it to Derby City classic....been to just about all the others......mike

Action, top play, some dealers-Derby City (24 hour action)
Lots of cues, top play-VF aka SBE

There is nothing like Derby City. But if your looking for dealing in some cues, your better off at VF. If you just want to watch great play, and maybe a little action, go to the US Open.

No question.

Go to Derby City.

Nothing else comes close.

I know watching pool would be fantastic at the DCC but is there as large a group of cue makers/sellers at DCC as there is at VF?

If you are going for the cues, definitely hit VF....If $50,000 sets and all the action in the world are what you would like to see, don't miss the Derby.

I would like to hear more about the DCC from the perspective of the spectators. I have only gone to VF because it is only a two hour drive. I stay for the whole thing, and I enjoy every minute of it. At DCC are the hotels accessible? I would probably not drive, so I want to be able to get around.

The DDC is at the executive hotel. I think the only disadvantage is their isn't too many options for meals. They have one restaraunt and one express counter near the tournament room. Other than that you would have any issues by not having a car there. Everything is on site. They even run shuttles to the airport as needed. I would advise you to play in the first tourney (banks) then you wont have to pay any admission for the tournament room the rest of the time you are there.

I went to VF for the first time this year. I have been to the Derby more years than not just due to proximity.

In my opinion VF is nice but is no comparison to Derby. VF is more expensive, more spread out, and for me no where near as much fun as DCC.

I fool around a little with nice cues and I did not feel like I gained a great deal of access at Valley Forge. Most of the guys there are at Derby, some just do not have booths at Louisville, but if you know who you are looking for it doesn't matter. IMO, there is a lot of "filler" vendors at VF. Most guys do not have interest in 2 or 3 wood vendors, there were only 10 or 15 real high end booths dealing in cues.

To me the best part of VF is that alot of industry people are held down to one spot (booth) so you can put faces with names. That is nice.

Derby is the NUTS. As far as I am concerened it is the best of everything,Cues, Action, Tournament, meeting people, I can go on and on.

One of the problems I had with VF is the "PIT" style of action. I just don't dig the cock fight style betting of "I got the racker" and there is NOWHERE to sit and sweat the action. Different strokes, just not for me.

I will not go back to VF. I will be at Derby from beginning to end.

ditto, this the best tourny i have ever been to , any thing you want!!! and i do mean anything!!!!! :p :p :p :p :p

I have not been to VF but have been to DCC a few times. I would add the BCAPL event in Vegas in May, it’s fun. Lots of vendors. Pro men and women BCA events. Multiple amateur events to play in (if you are not a pro). Sometimes there is big action at the Cue Club. And of course you are in Vegas so resturants / shows / debauchery are all at your fingertips, the entire trip does not have to be all about pool.

Anyway I would add it to the list for consideration.

The 2007 Sang Lee International Open. Something unique and different from your regular pool tournament.

If you do make it, you have the opportunity to watch many beautifully played matches of Ceulemans, Blomdahl, Sayginer, Caudron, etc.... all of the best players in the world competing together in round robin.

If they actually played BILLIARDS in Australia, Mr. Oyster might describe it as the highest level display of "the Cueing Arts" available in the US. ;) (Unfortunately, I don't know of even one Australian 3-cushion player.)

I would just call it a week long extravaganza of really great 3-cushion billiards.

VF or DCC

For pure action in many different games(1P,9ball,banks,etc) DCC is the place to go.

If you want to watch some action and see thousands of cues under one roof than VF is the place.

Just based on your comment about seeing cues I would say VF is the right place for you. You have some vendors at DCC but nothing like VF.

Derby City top of the list
Vallyforge sounds interesting
I'd also like to go see the Embassy world Snooker championship as well.

Valley Forge Super Billiards Expo.

The greatest celebration of pool in the history of all mankind is, without, question, BCA week in Las Vegas in May. There is a premier men's pro nine ball event, a women's pro event featuirng the toughest field of the year, and over ten thousand amateurs from all over the globe competing on the bar tables. They gamble all night and there's a ton of action at the very nearby Cue Club less than a mile away.

If you've never experienced this one-of-a-kind assembly of the greatest pro men, amateur men, pro ladies and amateur ladies, you owe it to yourself to check it out.

If your prime interest is in pool (four different tournment events), more action (gambling) in one place since Johnson City. The Derby is a pool players/pool watchers heaven. The best there is, period. Some cues and vendor displays. The reason to go to the DCC is pool and more pool, on and on. Every mayor player in the world seems to be there, and beleive me alot more great unknowns then you would think.
The other side of the coin is VF, it's a billiards expo, ton's of vendors, cue makers etc. Also has a good tournment. The pool is not like DCC, nothing is. VF has all of the vendors, nothing like it from that respect. If your main interest is cues go to VF but if you want to see the most jam up pool there is go to the DCC.
One of the other posters mentioned the BCA. Well it's alittle of each of these but not as good as either ; unless you are a amateur and are playing in the event.
Your choice. If you want to see the best pool you will ever see, it's the DCC. If you want to see the the best vendor display you may ever see, it's VF. If you want somthing in between (but not as good, unless your playing in the am) then it's the BCA or Valley in Vegas.
I'm sure you would have a good time at any of them. Lots to choose from. I think the best bang for a pool players buck is the DCC. If you can only go to one, it's gotta be the DCC.

This thread is perfect!....I live maybe 1/2 an hour from the Expo and have been going there for ever. I made plans to play the Derby last year, but last minute we moved back north and I missed it. That WILL NOT happen this year! I also plan to hit the 14.1 Championships in Jersey, and maybe a trip back to Florida in the summer.

Owning my own Biz is the best thing I ever did for my pool game...:)
