I know alot of people who have the means and desire to play and are very strong players. But, they also know that they wouldn't have a realistic chance of winning. So my question is this how good would you have to be to enter yourself into the US Open if money were no object.

Kidna i silly question..If you think u can compete & have a chance to win against the best in the world..play..if not pass....If u got money & just want to see where u stand against world class players play to see where u stack up..other than that don't play unless u feel u realistcally have somewhat of A SHOT.

I kind of agree with the above post. If you have the money and that's your thing...go for it. Playing top pros for the first time is a rush that you can't beieve. Not too many years ago when I would make a good score at the dogtrack (I owned dogs and know trainer's, so it was stealing) I'd go hunt down Steve Cook, Buddy Hall, C. M Lee, Allen Hopkins, and other top pros to get a spot that I knew I couldn't fade just to play them. I'd donate $100 or so a game in 14.1 or sets of 9-ball. If I could do it all over again I would. Ive always wanted to play in the Open and almost did last year. The only problem i had personally was i thought "I" wasnt ready.

Dont get me wrong i know i probably wont win the tournament but who cares. How often would you get a chance to play Archer or Strickland??? Not often if any. If i were to play my goal would be to win at least one match or more. If you do win that one match and then get knocked out then my goal for next year would be to win two or more. At least that was my personal goal or what i wanted to achieve. If i acheive just that i would be happy and train harder knowing i can play with these guys

I didnt enter because of the lack of pratice time i had to TRAIN (because you DO have to train very hard) my mind and body to take on some of the best players this world has to offer. Going in with a strong head and a well-tuned stroke is the only way to enter otherwise i would be on the rail.

Some would say if you werent grounded and fully ready then dont. It looks like i have 12 more months to go

If you have the money and desire to play in the US Open. Go for it!! You don't have to believe you can win, you can just do it for the experience.

There are many players in that tournament that KNOW they don't have a chance of winning, but they want to compete against the best, so they enter. If you're a good enough player you may make it thru a couple of rounds before you end up meeting up with a top player, and by then I'm sure you will have enjoyed yourself immensely!!

Let's face it, it's a 254 player field, but how many times do you see it filled up? I haven't seen it filled up, so by all means go play and good luck!

If money was not an object, I would enter any pro tournament.
In fact, if money was not an object I would quit my job and just play pool...

What's the entry fee? I'd be willing to part with a few hundred just to get my butt kicked by some of the top pros. I'd be really happy if I won a couple games. I think the experience of playing very serious is very valuable.

Entry fee is $600. I am fortunate enough to live in Florida and there are alot of top pros around. I enter all the tournaments I can and get to play the big boys. I am going to set aside time next year to play in the open for the experience. I was wanting to take a couple of friends with me to play and room with but the two I wanted to take with me are afraid of embarrasing themselves. They are both A players as well but are worried how they would perform under that type of pressure. Personally I play better with more pressure. The best pool i've ever played has been when I was playing for the most or against the best.

If you compare what it would cost to go and watch it all, vs what it would cost to play...you have all-access as a player- then it is a bit of a no-brainer for someone that plays B or above, IMO.

I would say that 60% of the field has absolutely no chance at a top 20, 60%.

The experience is unrivaled. Unlike DCC, it isn't a gamblefest and pretty much everyone is there with primary focus the Event.

Just to see the way these guys pocket balls and execute damn near perfectly all the time, for DAYS at a time is inspiring. And then to see a champ struggle thru to a win, well that is awesome too.

Even if the money is an object and your desire to play is strong, enter and play, it's well worth it. The pool world gets slammed a lot in some issues but one unique and powerful thing ANYONE can do in pool is enter an open tourney and possibly get the chance to play the sports top tier of players., maybe even SVB, Efern, Archer, Earl, ....WOW. The cost to the experience ratio is cheaper than a ticket to a thrill ride. In big tourneys I've lost to bums I should have tortured and sneaked up and popped some big boys. One thing it helps you realize is the importence of each game and making the right choice and excecuting the key shot. It also makes you realize what a big gap just one ball in speed makes. It was and is all fun. I heard on the grapevine that my next work project is in Quantico, if so I'll be playing in the next two or three opens!!
