OK tonight I'm at the pool hall and get into a game with a guy i know, race to 7 for 20 and he gets a game on the wire.

Well right away, he's just banging balls everywhere, and It took me forever to finally make more than 3 balls in a row. And we was playing on 7ft tables. But i was up 6-2. Well then he actually starts to play like I know he can, and ends up making it 6-5, but i win the next game.

So we play the next set, and he wants 2 games now, and stupid me agree's. Well once again, he's banging balls around, but scratching alot, and left me a couple easy cheese shots. And we go back n forth till its hill hill.

Now in the first set, I had missed a shot, but left him hooked. And he ASKed to use my jump cue. I said ok. Now back to set #2, I break and shoot at the 2 ball, miss, but hook him behind the 3&8, I turned my head to talk to someone for a couple seconds, and the guy grabbed my jump cue again, but didnt ask, made the shot, and proceeds to slop out the rack, banging balls around 3 or 4 rails.

Now I'm trying to not sound like a NIT, but should i have said WTF after i seen him use my jump cue to make the 2 ball, when it was hill-hill, or what?

Also, If you know how someone plays, and they are pulling some crap like banging balls around, and basically just around, would you quit the set, mid match, or tell him to play like he should or theres no money in the end.

The point that i am getting to, is that it bugs the shyt outa me when guys do this crap, and end up getting lucky by banging balls in, or hooking you on accident so you left kicking at everything if they happen to miss.

Now I can go and play on a 9ft table with guys who are A players and hold my own very well, And its because I know thier not out to just bang balls around, so its actually fun to play them, even if i lose.

just looking for other opinions

If you are letting that crap bother you, you need to quit pool, period!

That's just 9 ball.

If your in a gunfight, don't hand the other guy your gun because he's likely to shoot you with it. Words to live by.

Maybe set the rules up front...no slop, maybe push out if they unintentionally hook you after a miss. And tell him to get his own jump cue!

I know thats just how 9ball is,

But my main issue is, wouldnt It bother the hell outa you if John Q, was a top player, but was pulling this crap just banging balls around. Or maybe I should just avoid playing him for a couple of weeks.

And I know I shouldnt let it bother me, but I hafta vent somewhere lol, and better here than at the pool hall, where i can make a ass outa myself.

Linda, oh yea I've told him too before about getting a jump cue, And it wouldnt have been such a big deal if he had asked before hand, instead of just grabbing it and taking the shot. And for the most part, the guys I do play, dont just bang balls around, and I've played him before and he played like a normal C+ / B player would. And theres always going to be the occasional slop shot, But the crap he was doing was making me ill !

And I've tried doing the whole no slop, no cheese rules before with guys, cuz of how they play, and even the better players in my area piss and moan about it lol.

I've even gone so far as to tell people I will only gamble on a 9ft table, which i play alot better on lol not sure why? but it happens, but then everyone wants the world for weight, or they chicken out saying, I dont know how to play on a 9ft table.

Push out? That's all I have to do is pushout? No wonder I lose at 9-ball. They keep safeing me and all I would have to do is pushout!

To me it is a cardinal sin to quit in the middle of a money match. You just don't do it for whatever reason, since you should always know what your getting into.

Secondly if someone takes me to 7-5, I would never give another game on the wire.

me, no one play with my cues. Period. Hehehe, so you just broke even right? You winning the first set, and him winning the second. If the case then i wouldn't have been mad but if i lost all my money hell yeah i would of quit LOL. But i see this from other teams, everyone uses the same break cue or something like that, they all use the same jump cue as in some cases there is just that one player with all the cues. But they always ask to borrow or use the cue before they pick it up no matter what, and they should outta respect, thats what i think.

First off I never let anybody use any of my cues period. You don't come to a Gun Fight with a Butter Knife. Second know who your playing with set the rules in the beginning period. Know the game, and all the moves. If somebodies being a jerk then politely ask that they refrain from that type of behavior. If they refuse then quit.

it's funny about this post and what you say cause i let an opponent use my cue once on a very important shot for him in a tourney in chicago. i just loosened the shaft a little and handed him the cue, he never checked it. when he shot the ball the cue made this god-awful noise and he missed bad. needless to say he was hot and of course never asked to use my cue again. ;) :D

Well thats the thing, normally this guy plays a straight up game, and just tries to run out or plays safe, which is kewl. thats all i really look for in someone who plays, is a honest game.

But just banging balls around, that stuff is for newbies.

I dont understand this thread...you are starting to sound like the poker guys who are pissed cause 54839408294382043 newbie fish got hooked on poker. "i hate all these players who dont know how to play and play any 2 random cards and catch on the river and win a big pot, yet in the long run i take all their money cause they have no idea how to really play poker." Yeah me too, i hate millions of dead money players that catch occasional cards on the river and win one big pot, just to lose it all back and then a bunch more playing those same bad hands.

How can you not want to play a wild ball slammer? he may win one set outta 10 with his wild tactics but keep playing him and you will bust him.

The poker comparison occurred to me too. If somebody was 'banging balls around' playing me some 9-ball I'd love it, 'cause they'd have no chance.

Don't let anyone use your cues--especially if you're gambling with 'em.

i have to be in full agreement with the last 2 posters. If someone is banging the balls around id love it.....much better than a guy running out from everywhere and torturing you with safes. I think youre just mad he was banging and you werent winning, i mean come on. As for the jumpcue, you pretty much opened the door when you let him use it the first time. You cant let him and then get pissed when he uses it again......honestly if i was to ask to borrow something like a jump cue from a guy im playing and he says ok, i aint gonna ask him after that, im gonna assume what was ok 10 minutes ago is ok now.
Hey nobody likes to get beaten by some lucky rolls, but it happens. Nobody likes to let a guy use your own equipment to beat you, but you did. Learn from it and move on

I would let him use my jumper. If I can't win no matter what cue he or I uses then I have matched up wrong.I love when people bang balls around and don't try to run out.It makes it easier on me to win by playing safe and or running out.Don't let it bother you.

Oh I realize the errors I did to the full extent, and I still kick myself for it, and it wont happen again.

And honestly, i would rather a guy try to run out or play safe on me, because atleast then he is trying, or making the effort.

Anyways, enough beating of the dead horse, i will get my payback, i'll probably see him tonight and ask him to play when he comes right into the pool hall.

A few thoughts Storm....Like was said above, you let him use it once so he probably thought it was ok to do it again. I NEVER let people use my cues against me. I have loaned cues for someone to play with.....responsible people that is:D

Maybe that guy was banging balls around to try to save face. maybe he thought....if I bang em and lose, I have the excuse that I wasn't trying and was just messing around.

remember, playing a guy close to your speed, giving out a little weight, then playing on a small table<<<the great equalizer>>> was not great game making. Just make it a learning experience, and a cheap one at that, hell you broke even.

When your done venting sit down and map out a plan for your next session, and stick to the plan. don't give in and do something you don't want to do just to get into a game. I've done that, and it sux to be mid set realizing I made a bad game. And on the quitting thing, the only way you quit mid game (winning or losing) is to pay the guy, then quit.

You'll get em next time man!
