If the Pro's had a coach

I'm pretty sure some players do have coaches or have received coaching at one time or another. I think Mark Wilson is a name you'd see on that list if pool instruction for pros was as big as golf instruction.

I'm talking full time ,, a very good older player with a world of knoledge told me
Jimmy Reid would be right at the top of his list

Ralph Eckert has trained many of the Euros and a few Americans... I would say he was the top of the heap.....

Grady would've been great, God rest him.
Jimmy Reid I agree with.

My favorite would be Danny Diliberto....he is intense, has done it all...
....and can talk about it.
....won't stand for no malarkey...get serious or go away.

Based on his videos and success with coaching, I think Tor Lowry would be great.
Also, Jerry Briesath.
Also Dr Dave and Bob Jewett.
Tom Simpson has more detailed knowledge than most players but not sure about coaching.

The problem is that very few if any players could afford a full time coach :(

Well:

Stan Shuffett - Has worked with players from all over the world
Randy Goettlicher - China is sending players for him to train
Scott Lee - I think he is also working with the China Group

Randyg & Scott Lee already train and coach top line players.

What do they seek?......Proper Mechanics for their personal self!

if i had to pick one, it would definitely be mark wilson. i've seen him in action and his teaching style is great IMO. not to mention he's a good guy, and fun to be around. got the privilege of playing snooker with mark at the room i shoot at a few years back. he is a friend of the owner and was in to do an exhibition. we were playing some and he just came up and asked to shoot a few frames. ran a couple 60-70 breaks with zero warm up and no knowledge of the table (it has a couple bad rolls).
however....if grady were still around i would probably go with him. very few knew more than grady.

you got it right!

Add in Phil Capelle and the list is complete!

The coach of the European Mosconi Cup team. That's really the only event that uses a coach in Pool. He has proven himself by leaps and bounds.

If some of you guys have learned nothing of value from the posts of Patrick Johnson or
CJ Wiley......I wouldn't brag about it, if I were you.

They have posted some excellent information.

And you can read 40000 books and have a world of knowledge,, but a coach with a eye for spotting the flaws in a stroke or mechanics and the strengths and weaknesses in their game and tailoring a style of play that playes to the stenghths of the player is a talent
and just cause you were a great player or you have knoledge of how to play with or with out a system , does not mean you would make a good instructor

My point of view....it's like handicapping horses...
...there are horses for courses and courses for horses.
Some instructors are good for some players......
...some players need different instructors.
It's not just the stage they're at....it's how they perceive.

I applaud coaching....all players have a coach waiting that can help.....
....but there is no ' one size fits all '

What I don't applaud is the meanness, bitterness, and anger from either side.
....a good discussion is examination by argument......
...either side of the aiming wars should spend more time looking for something good.

In the Filipino pool community in NYC, Ramon Mistica is revered as the man to see. I was told he coached Efren Reyes, and Dennis Orcullo.
