If there was a golf tournament for pro pool players

Golf is JS

well...there are a couple things wrong with your post as well...a plus 1 or 2 handicap would imply that you're averaging around a couple strokes UNDER par. tour players are PLUS handicaps not minus handicaps. that would imply that you would need to ADD strokes to get them back to even par. that said, i'm pretty confident john spends most of his time playing from the tips. he used to play in every big money game in the pensacola area when he lived down there. the difference between a scratch player and a tour player has more to do with consistency than anything else. being able to put those rounds together 4 days in a row is what separates mini tour golfers from tour players.

Correct a plus handicap...+1 or +2 is one to two strokes under par. John's lowest round verified was 61 and has shot 62's and 63's on more then a few occasions, this has been confirmed by Corey Deuel, and can be seen/heard on the TAR Podcast before the match between John and Corey.

John hasn't been playing much golf recently from what he's posted but he has said he shot 73 recently and is trying to get the rust off his game. He has had a "plus" Handicap as a golfer for years, probably a scratch or -1/-2 right now. I dont think any pro player playing now has shot in the low 60's at all, and I don't believe that any other pro can shoot a 73 when barely playing golf at all...so I would also take JS as a heavy favorite playing any pro right now.

Earl did win his Club Championship in NC at one time but never heard he was a plus handicap golfer ever...and never heard he shot low 60's rounds but not 100% positive..I would take JS giving heavy odds to any of them.

...I think the best anyone is playing for is a split. I suspect John can win this bet playing both games even but can't lose!

Agreed... So, is there a human being alive that has a positive EV against Schmidt in this proposition (race to 21 9b + a round of golf)? If so, who?

Not the case

Just a few points of clarity with no malice aforethought and no disrespect intended. to a couple of these post. A plus 1 or plus 2 while exceptional is not scratch. Most people that claim to be one or two handicap can't play to that and certainly not from championship tees. They might not even be able to do it from the white tees. If John Schmidt is a legitimate scratch golfer from the championship tees he is in the wrong sport. He could take his golf game along with pool resume and do corporate outings, have more fun and make more money. There is not eight strokes difference from a scratch golfer from the championship tees and many PGA Tour golfers. Most PGA tour players are probably -5 to - 6 if they had established handicaps which they have no reason to do. Earl never won any significant tournaments in North Carolina. He did win a Club Championship at his club in NC. In early 80's. John Rollins a PGA TOUR WINNER who still plays is probably the best pool player on Tour and he is not going to beat John Schmidt heads up in pool unless it was a race to one or two. John , Johnny, Earl and any other pro pool player would easily get three a side from the championship tees from any PGA TOUR PLAYER. The other thing to remember is that playing the ball down as it lies and playing by the rules will add two to five strokes to most players score .

NCAA All American Golfers all play to "plus" (under par) handicaps and only a fraction make it to the PGA Tour...same goes for regional, satellite, Hooters Tours, and the web.com tour which is the PGA's minor leagues...some guys shoot low 60's rounds 3 out of 4 days in web.com tournaments and never reach the PGA Tour.

john schimdt

johns already played golf with all the pool players and beat them all, kim, archer, putnam, earl and corey, none of them want any more from john s.

Are you trying to promote Schmidt for the Ryder Cup now in golf? You highly promoted him for the Mosconi cup and his total record in matches he played in was 1-4 which was a duplicate of the other Mosconi cup he played in.
All that praise and promoting for him and you (locksmith) didn't even have enough confidence to bet on him in the Mosconi Cup but of course you want to stake him against other pool players playing golf.
I hope he makes it again next year and you decide to praise him and make wagers on him also but It ain't looking very good for Schmidt to make the team anymore.
Good luck finding a golf game I'm sure there are a few players that will take your offer to play him some putt-putt.

You go to the driving range at any PGA TOURNAMENT you can't tell the number one money winner from number. 125 they all hit it great . The winners make 7 out of ten from 7 or 8 ft . When you get to that level it's about up and down and. 7 footers whether they are for par or birdie . Check the stats.

Is this a pool "and" golf match? If so this would be awesome to watch and sweat. Any streamer want to get a mobile camera and film the golf then upload it???

Earl broke the celebration with: "David, you still hit the wrong club!"

Earl's best score is 66 or 67, but John S. is the best "pro pool players/golfer".

Earl, Johnny, Kim D., John D, and David Howard used to play just about every tournament....we bet among ourselves, Kim and I actually played for $500 a hole in Vegas one time (that's another story).

One gorgeous day David Howard, Earl Strickland and I were playing a par 3 in Reno.....Earl and I hit 8 Iron, and David hit a 6 iron.....before David hit, Earl said "that's the wrong club, David, you should be hitting a 7 iron".

David didn't listen and hit the 6 iron.....it hit before the green, rolled up, and up and......went in the hole!!! A HOLE IN ONE.....it was amazing, I'd never seen someone do it "LIVE" before.

Earl broke the celebration with: "David, you still hit the wrong club, if you would have hit it better it would have went over the green".

There was an awkward silence.......David stammered "but it went in the hole, Earl".

For the rest of the round it went back and forth between "high 5's" and Earl reminding David that he made a hole in one DESPITE not hitting the right club. :rotflmao::bash:

Very funny story!

Did you guys drag your own clubs to every pool tournament or just rent them out at the country club?

we neither one broke 100 on Pebble Beach

We all carried our own clubs. Johnny used PING and I favored Mizuno.

Johnny Archer and I played SpyGlass and Pebble Beach the same day, that was exhausting. Johnny usually spotted me "two halves" a side which was too much on SpyGlass (I shot 79) and we neither one broke 100 on Pebble Beach. The wind kicked up in the afternoon off the ocean and we couldn't get to the greens in regulation.
