If you were granted the wish to be the best pool player, but you had to pick 1 game, what one would you pick.

8 ball
9 ball/10 ball
straight pool
1 pocket
Rotation
And not to discriminate against Kentucky, Banks

I'd go with straight pool because if I could control the ball well enough to be the best at that...I'd probably be able to do well enough in the other games. Although Banks would be another REALLY good one to be the best at.

One pocket

I'd love to have the respect of that game's elite. Billy Incardona and Grady, Nick Varner and Buddy all taught me so much by their commentary. It sure would be nice to have the knowledge to offer them an education. One pocket is a great game full of great characters.

Dont know enough about anything other than 9-ball or 8-ball so I will go with 8-ball:thumbup:

That all depends:

If the IPT comes back, I want to be the best 8-ball player.

If pool is the way it is now, probably 10-ball because that is where the biggest action is.

Maybe one pocket because that seems to be where most people have been matching up lately.

And if I just wanted to be the best pool player ever, straight pool because if I am the best, you can't get to the table to beat me because we are playing straight pool. Continue to shoot until you miss.

I picked 9-ball, only because the majority of tournaments are 9-ball, and that would be the best opportunity to pick up a little extra $$$$.

From a pure playing perspective, I think straight pool would be the game to master.

9 because it's currently king (I can't figure out why, personally).

I love 8 ball because of the strategy and amount of forethought necessary.

Just pick one. If you were the best at one, you would automatically be pretty good at the others.

14.1.

If you master the game of straight pool, then you give yourself a chance at mastering all of the other games.

I want the dough!

I hate playing 9/10 Ball, but since they're the only two you can make money at that's what I chose! I'd much rather be the best one pocket or straight pool player, but since that pays @#$%, I'll stay with the rotation boys and collect money I guess! :)

9/10 ball for me, because I'd want to be the best at a game that's played everywhere. 9/10 ball is played all over the world, at professional tournaments, bars, pool-rooms, etc. It might be more intellectually satisfying to be a master of 14.1, but it would be immensely frustrating not be able to find a game anywhere.

They do play 1-pocket most places where pool enthusiasts can be found, but not nearly as many places as 9-ball. Also, there are a lot more 9/10 ball tournaments to be found, including world championships, and that kind of thing would definitely appeal to me if I was the best in the world.

I said 9/10 ball because I can not really picture any other game on tv or getting sponsorship. That is assuming that I would be playing like the ghost and if you break dry, miss, or play a safety I get out no matter what.

Id like to say 1 pocket, but all the big tourneys are 9 ball so that would be my first choice. Think of all the 9 ball events out there. World pool championships,Mosconi cup,Us open, Derby city's 9 ball event the barbox 9 ball going on right now etc etc. And all the countless regional tours.

Straight Pool, with One Pocket a very close second (squeaker)

Dave's right -- if you become a "master" at straight pool, you've given yourself a healthy head start at mastering all the other games (sans billiards/3C, of course). Speaking of "other games," methinks the following should've been choices in the poll:

1. 3-cushion (3C). A LOT of money can be won at the 3C events. (3C masters tend to be pretty darn good pool players, as well, btw.)

2. Snooker. Big-time money is won at snooker events, and this great sport is only getting more popular with such talented and flashy players as Ronnie O'Sullivan in the field. Put it this way, UK ?147 000 for a maximum break, not including the prize money for winning or placing in the tournament itself? That's some serious moola!

Anyway, that's my thoughts, for what they're worth <bends down to pick a penny up off the floor>.
