If you search Moori at Alibaba.net

I have seen some of those before and they were obvious fakes. That was back when they switched to the bubble packaging. These may be different but I would not risk my money on it.

How does the average consumer tell the real ones from the Chinese-made ones , Chris ?
Only Kamui has an authenticity guide .

This thread is more a tout Kamui thread than a concern for genuine Moori thread.

We'll play along....

Authenticity guide! Forgers in China can replicate what Kamui is touting in their "authenticity guide" if they wanted to flood the market. So far Kamui has been fortunate.

Kamui's guide is an archaic attempt in today's high tech world compared to what Moori has in place to protect its consumers.

As for Moori...
Moori has 3 holographic forgery prevention stickers on each strip of 12 tips to assure distributors they are buying genuine Moori. No need for a guide when you have a difficult to duplicate hologram that changes color.

Just buy from people you know and you won't have a problem. You can search for any name brand on Alibaba and come up with people offering it. Some are actually offering the real thing while most are not. Most use brand names as a way to get people to look at their ads with no ability or intention to offer counterfeits. And of course some offer counterfeits.

As for the holograms and all that - don't kid yourselves, people all over the world know how to make the hologram packaging. The only way you can know if you are getting genuine Moori tips is if Mr. Moori hands them to you and even then you aren't truly sure.

The best you can do is buy from trusted sources and go with that.

Chady Liu for example sells hundreds of boxes of Mooris a year. He buys direct from Moori.

You're absolutely correct in that holograms can be copied. Kamui's hologram merely changes color right on the tip themselves and is the easiest form to duplicate.

Moori's hologram all look the same to the naked eye and so Moori went one step further to protect his product and his good name. When you are a Moori distributor, Moori provides a sort of decoder tool that you flash over the Moori Hologram and it shows differently through the viewer than with the naked eye. This added protection insures genuine Moori tips.

And also you stated, "The only way you can know if you are getting genuine Moori tips is if Mr. Moori hands them to you and even then you aren't truly sure".

I'm sure this slipped your mind and you of course want to be fair and balanced in your postings so in the midst and excitement of posting you obviously missed the balanced part of your post which should have also stated....

The only way you can know if you are getting genuine Kamui tip is if Mr. Kamui (or Masato the owner) hands them to you and even then you aren't truly sure.

I'm sure you agree that would have been much more fair and balanced assessment.

You seem to have some idea that I am taking sides. I don't care about brands of tips. I don't care about moori or kamui. I was talking about counterfeiting and the consumer has no access to the hologram tool you claim is provided. In my opinion when it gets to the point where we need currency level holograms and James bond level decoders to buy and sell pool cue tips then we have gone too far.

No, sorry wrong! You took a stand when you stated, "The only way you can know if you are getting genuine Moori tips is if Mr. Moori hands them to you and even then you aren't truly sure".

You said that remark against Moori without stating the equal about Kamui so I said it for you, "The only way you can know if you are getting genuine Kamui tip is if Mr. Kamui (or Masato the owner) hands them to you and even then you aren't truly sure.

Remember, fair and balanced is the best way to present your case but you're lopsided and spin real good; but not good enough sunshine.

NO silly I was using Moori as an example. Let me say it a different way for you.

The only way you can know if you are getting genuine Le Pro tips is if Skip Nemecek hands them to you and even then you aren't truly sure".

Sorry that the point was a bit deep. It was rooted in Buddhism and existentialism and meant to be kind of a joke.

Really? Well he hosed me over on a chalk deal not long ago so using him as an example doesn't work in my book.

Should change his name to Shady maybe. Wouldn't purchase anything from him again.
Still cost me more than it was worth to get my money returned and then he made it sound like he was doing me a huge favor.

It was Pay Pal that returned my money and not him. Nothing but BS and lies.

I don't think that this had anything to do with counterfeit items. I think you were upset with the quality of the chalk right? Regardless I understand your point.

My point stands that at some point you simply have to go on faith that the person supplying you is selling you the genuine item if you are buying from known and trusted sources. All the holograms in the world don't matter if THAT person is able to provide counterfeit items.

In the larger real world companies will often spot check their dealers to make sure that everything is on the square and dealers are mixing in counterfeit stuff with the good stuff. Not much different than bars who use fake labels or even genuine bottles with fake liquor in it.

Hell I have seen bars here selling counterfeit Tsingdao when the fake stuff is ONLY 20cts cheaper per bottle for them to buy it than the real beer.

The point is again you have to find people you trust when you are buying brand name items. And Alibaba is not a trustworthy outlet for name brand billiard equipment. I would trust Chady to be selling genuine merchandise. Regarding his return policies.....well that's between you and him I think. I personally don't buy things from overseas without considering how it will be dealt with if I were to have to return it. Generally for me I only buy stuff I don't plan on returning when it's an overseas purchase.

I am sorry you are at odds with Chady. I find him to be easy to deal with and he pays on time. So my relationship is different than yours.

Yes, I understand that but to be fair and balanced, you should have said that, "The only way you can know if you are getting genuine Moori and Kamui tips is if the manufacturer (eg: owners) hand them to you and even then you aren't truly sure".
