If you were asked to not sign a cue

If someone comissioned you to build a cue and asked you specifically not to sign it or add your trademark, would you? Or is signing it more of a "right" the cuemaker has? Or is the customer always "right" in this transaction?

Man that depends....I'd at least add a logo or something inside the buttcap so someone can identify it......

I would have no problem what-so-ever with that request.

I would actually take offense to that request. They commissioned you to build a cue for them, that request , especially if it resembles another makers work in the end result, would definately raise a flag with me.
They trusted me to build their cue, why would they not want my logo? I would decline.
Just my 2 cents...

I understand

I would understand if it resembled another maker. That would be a red flag. I would also understand hiding a logo or similar under the bumper or signing under the wrap for identification purposes later.

I've complied with this request a few times. It's rare, but it does come up occasionally. It has never bothered me.
More often, I get people asking me to make a more obvious mark signature or trademark.

Certainly not a cue maker myself, but I have made this very request and not for any devious reason. At the same time, I suggested a small logo or other less conspicuous marking would be fine by me. Understand that anyone would be proud of their work and perhaps want to sign it, but some buyers value the look of the finished piece of art more than a sometimes poorly done signature.

I mean to offend no one but some of the Filipino makers would do very well to eliminate the gaudy signature from the forearm of their pieces. The beautiful woods and workmanship don't need to covered by a signature. A small and simple logo would be more than adequate to identify the maker.

You do have a point bro., nice suggestions you have also..Thats why i am thinking of a new logo than putting a signature on my cues. Still working on it, if the right time comes will definately change it.

I've also asked this request not to put a signature, well first i asked him why? and i think he's answer is valid for me so the request was favored.
i'm easy to deal type of man..Important to me is that were both smiling after the end of the day..

I agree with Dick on this one. I'd have no problem whatsoever in leaving my logo off the cue. As a matter of fact, I'd charge $25 less for the cue.
On the other hand, be careful what you wish for.

A sign or reg-number like on SW for example should be enough. Don t think many cuemaker should have a problem with this question. But some will always have also ^^

I believe some identifying mark should be either on the pin or in the butt or under the wrap.
Wouldn't want someone pass my cue off as anothers if i was the CM.

As long as it is for personal reasons and not so the cue can be passed of as someone else's. I refuse to copy other peoples work but it does not stop people from asking me too.
