Wow I had no idea Rodney is that old. Not that it's all that old, but you know what I mean.

Several years ago I won a match against him in a 9ball tourny, largely because I made 4 or 5 9 balls on the break. :) He was racking!

Where was this tourny?

Tom, you'll keep doing what your doing because this is what we do. We play for the spirit of the competition and we love it.

I just played in Reno this last week. I'm 69 years old and wore myself out but I had a good time. I played SVB in the first round of the first tournament of 10 ball and was embarrassed by him on the tv table. I was just out of sync. Two tournament later I was able to redeem myself against him in the eight ball tournament and was fortunately enough to get an opportunity to shoot in the last game to pull out the win.

I have recently started working out at the gym with cardiac and some back and arm exercises. This is a great benefit in the endurance department. I am trying to make it a regular routine for myself. I can say that after a week of continuous play I still had energy left at the end.

I loved the line that SVB used to describe his loss to you in the Eight Ball, "I just got beat by some old man." I couldn't help laughing when he said it. By the way, that same "old man" knocked me out of the Eight Ball too, right after I won a couple of matches against decent players.

My hope is that Frank and I will be playing each other ten and twenty years from now. I may finally beat him once. :D

The tournament was in Woburn MA. at The Silver Cue. The place where I actually played my first tounament in some thirty-one years ago. I won one game. in two sets,(races to seven). A lot goes through my mind in that place.

Tom you have a quasi-twin here, pushing Father Time (but not nearly as old as you are) :D Friday night I played in a tournament and took 2nd place until 2:00 am and Saturday I played practically all day and part of the night to take 3 rd place and on Monday I decided to go artifact hunting with my 30 year old son and the location required that we hike for 2 hours there and two hours back and a few hours of digging through many feet of clam shells, yielded a few 1800's colored bottles, some pieces of primitive Indian pottery, but no arrowheads. Tonight I will play in a handicapped tournament where I will have to give up the triple nuts because I am a glutton for punishment.

This from your jarhead cousin, 6 times removed. ;)

That's awesome Frank. Congratulations on your victory over Shane Van Boening!

When you are getting ready to quit that exercise routine, just think about how sweet it was to whip up on that young whipper-snapper.

Maybe you could persuade Jhendy to work out with you too (like he needs it).:D

Every time I'm there at the end, I question was it worth it? Hell yea! A lot of young people went home way before me.

Today is Mike Zuglan's birthday. Happy, I think. fifty forth , Mike. Another great player, that passed, was born today, Nick Vlahos. Happy birthday Nick, we all miss you.

You did okay...

We all know that pool players work pretty hard...not real hard lol but hard...and dont' get paid an awful lot...but sometimes not too too bad...so let's say $24/hr...

Okay so the time you spent comes down to 8 hrs. @ $24/hr = $192...and 10 hrs. @ $36/hr = $360...that's time and a half for overtime...forget it's the weekend...that's $552 estimated reasonable earnings...not too too bad for a day's work...

Oh and we had a few expenses...

I would do the snow removal...what, a half hour??...for $50...

Not much travel there...about an hour??...gas...let's say $10...

Entry fee...hope it's $50...

Breakfast...lunch...dinner...snack...breakfast...not counting beer...What???...$100???...

Oh and I imagine you might have given that $552 Third Place finish to your wife???...lol well if you didn't you should...

Anyway not too too shabby...

Johnnyt, you sound like a guy I knew back in NY who was an ex-bookie. I've referred to him in another post as the guy I used to give the 8 ball to and couldn't beat, and didn't play him for several years. Then, one day, I gave him the 8 and beat him and he never asked me to play again.
Anyway, he died of a heart attack, in the pool room, playing 9 ball. In his obituary, his wife stated that playing pool was his favorite thing to do in life.
 
Way to go, Tom! I'm 59 and still hitting 'em, though I don't get out to tournaments much any more.
 
Too many old guys that play well.

Maybe we should have a tournament?

The seniors have the time to play and the inclination. A tournament for the AZB guys would be fun but I also think that senior leagues and tournaments might be a great growth area for pool.

I'd love to see something big for seniors. Maybe an over fifty or fifty-five national championship. Run qualifiers in every state. Two players from every state and twenty-eight wild card entries from all over the country.that have to win regoinal qualifiers to round out the one-hundred and twenty-eight man field. Maybe Viagra could be a sponcer, they like to throw money around.
