Eric/Fatboy,
I really have no issues with you. Maybe we've had a difference of opinion at times, but frankly, EVERYONE is entitled to thier opinion.
We met briefly at one event, so you may be able to put a face to the name. In fact, I may take you up on your offer to visit next time I'm in your neighborhood. Not for any other reason than to formally apologize, and in person. Some may feel that this post will come across as a b**** out. To them I say that in all reality I did not have to come back to this forum to post anything at all.
So now the big question. Why I did what I did.
http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=220129&highlight=hierovision
I'm sure you're thinking, "What the hell does this have to do with anything ?" Honestly, I have no personal stake in anything that you, he, and anyone else on this forum do, aside from the following. My intent was to bring to light the wrongful treatment that members here can sometimes be the recipient of. Including yourself.
In all actuality, I was not the troll here. The posters that relentlessly and repeatedly told me to go away simply fed into my opinion of you. The posters that continued to slander my pseudo-name were, in reality, getting enjoyment by ganging up and lambasting me simply because I was not part of their clique'. Take a look back at this thread. Save for possibly one or two initial posts, the remainder are respones to my being insulted and belittled for stating the same things that others have said in different threads. On a side note, if you read the above link, someone explains how to use the ignore button. It's not as mystical of a task as everyone makes it out to be.
I also sent a great deal of friend requests to everyone else in that thread and almost every one of them, save for a small handful of members, viciously declined my request. The ones that did not decline asked for my side of the story. And I told it to them.
All I've done with my
nom de plume is treat your screen name with the same lack of respect that others had treated the screen name in the link, and the topic of that thread. Just about anyone else's screen name would not have met with the types of reactions that Fatboy's has. The comments that I'd made in any of my pseudo-names posts were nothing that hasn't been said here before, and anything that I posted was pretty much in line with the types of things that were said to the topic of the above link. Before anyone jumps all over me for that comment, yes, I know Cocobolo Cowboy doesn't know JA, or do some of the things that Eric does. That wasn't the point. I intentionally invoked hostility and anarchy. The same type of hostility and anarchy that CC was unfortunately an unwilling victim of. Just like Eric.
There were a couple of things that really surprised me, however. The first was how people were so quick to defend you, Eric. For all the negative chatter about you that people post here, it's impressive how many people came to your defense. You have a great deal of AZB friends, and for that you should be thankful, as I'm sure you are. But the greater majority of the terminology and verbage used to bash me were a bit lackluster and prehistoric. At first I thought I was being insulted by pre-teen members. And then it got to a point where people wanted to physically assault me for stating my opinion through my
nom de plume. Yes, it's only words on a screen, but they're still words directed towards someone, whether they are at a computer monitor or not. In a community where it's been implied that everyone is entitled to thier opinion. Still, I have to wonder if it would have solicited the same responses from the members here if we were face to face. I tend to think not.
The second was the number of people that gave my pseudo-name green versus red reputation. As you can all guess by now, that screen name has been banned. Otherwise I might cut and paste some of the statements from the GREEN comments field here. On a side note, the comments made for the RED were again very primitive in context. Expectedly, some of these people that GREENED me were the same people that, with an adult level of reasoning, verbage and context, defended the little guy in the link above for having an opinion. What was REALLY surprising, though, was that those same people that GREENED my pseudo-name wouldn't defend me with a post in your thread. I'm curious to know why that was.
There are people in this world that simply don't mesh. It's a fact of life, as I'm sure you if anyone are aware, considering how many people you interact with. But to lambaste someone like CC, and yourself, for trying to contribute to the forums ? I think in the link above, your thread in question, and a number of other threads, things sometimes go a little too far. And while I'll agree that this thread did get a little over the top, I will note that my comments in response to many posts were obviously not the only contributing factors to it reaching that point. Everyone simply continued to, in thier own opinions and statements, "feed the troll".
Happily, Cocobolo is posting again. He deserves to be here just like anyone else, including everyone reading this. Again, I'm not affiliated with ANY of you. But it appaled me to read the link above, and CC was then nowhere to be found.
I'm sure many members here are involved with, or are a fan of, a sport other than billiards. To them I offer this exercise : Next time you're watching a game, take a look at how those professional players interact with each other. You'll have that occasional outburst or shoving match between two opponents, but the greater majority of the time there is an incredible display of camaraderie between opponents. They RESPECT each other, even though they are opponents. They are playing to win, with the intent of beating thier opponent to do it. They have opposing views, just like members of forums, including this one.
Seems as of late, a great many people are trying to figure out why our sport isn't taken seriously. That we bash each other to this degree for a difference of opinions doesn't help the matter much. Alienating or banning because someone feels that a member "has nothing to contribute" isn't going to solve the problem either.
My writing skills may seem a bit choppy or unpolished. So after I upload this novel, I'm certain posts bashing me yet again will follow. And posts that claim I GREENED myself. And posts that claim I'm really Fatboy, CC, or whoever else they can think of. And maybe even a few posts that agree not so much with what I've done, but why I did it.
After reading all the RED and GREEN comments posted in private to my pseudo-name, the public comments, and the comments in the link above, I think that a great deal of members here need to take a real long look at themselves before they respond to this or any other threads. To quote another former member from some time ago, maybe this is what's wrong with pool.
As hard as I've looked in the Profile and User CP section, I can't seem to locate anything remotely similar to "Deactivate Account". So I'm going to assume that in the very near future, either this account will be banned as well, or a member will soon post here with a response on how to do it.
Bruce, I hope you're here posting until you reach 1,000,000.
Eric, I truly wish you nothing but success in all your future endeavors.
