In todays market what do you think my 08 SW is worth?

I'm thinking of selling my 08 Southwest cue and wondering what you think it is worth.
Goncola Alves forearm
Ebony points 3 veneers(black, blue, maple from outside in)
all the rings from top to bottom
ebony butt with Alves band

the butt of the cue is 99%
the shafts are 100% and have never been chalked or hit a ball.
I have played with the cue but I used a predator shaft.

I also have joint protectors from Alton @ cuecaps that are a close match to the cue.

These use to sell all day on the secondary market for 2500, but today....not sure what the number may be. It's an attractive cue with nice veneer colors and exotic nose, so would think you should get some action on it. :)

Curious, what was it new from them in 08...was that old prices or new?

not sure if it was new or old price.
 
The wood combo in that cue is rather rare, of course these surface here time after time, but these appear to be more desired as far as I can tell. It also has triple laminates (as they call it) and almost all rings, plus the JPs... many extras that add to the price. Even with these factors taken into consideration I'd say this cue is not going to move for 3k, not even if it was 101% worth it, due to economy's state and the way it has reached the cue market somewhat.

This may be a bold / false statement, but apparently during the past couple of months people tend to hold onto their cues more than they did at around early 2009, late 2008, especially for the cues valued at or below 3 thousand. I believe that the prices will hardly ever drop on an 8k Cantando or Barry, but they will decrease when it comes to a cue that was worth 3400 and now it won't sell for 2700...

To answer your question, if I was burning with the desire of "I-must-get-an-SW" now, I would pay $2,800; maybe even more if I was desperately looking for this very combination.

If it was you looking to move the cue very soon, I'd say that you should list it for like $2,500 and take the best offer. This way you may get the price you are asking from someone who would spend even 3k, or maybe someone who only has 25 hundred...
This way, sure thing is that you will end up with less money but a faster sale.

It all depends on what you want.

The other old-school method is listing it for something like $2,900 or so and listen to the offers and if there's no action, starting lowering the price slowly.

These are my thoughts after an extremely long Monday so I could be wrong here....
 
Beautiful SW cue. What does the cue, butt, and shafts weigh? There are a greater number of potential buyers if the cue is in the 19.0-19.4 range. As you approach and exceed 20oz., the market narrows. I sold a few new ones last year that were comparable in 2550-2650 range. If straight and not too heavy I'd think there would be lowballer-free traction around $2400.00--but I must admit to not following the current SW market closely.

thanks for your input and as of right now I don't have to sell the cue but thought about buying another cue not to long ago(6k-7k range) and wanted to see what I could get for this SW if that deal came around again.

I would have to reweight it but I think it is 19.8 overall and everything is straight.
 
$2300 to $2400 in this market. Maybe as low as $2100 or as high as $2500.

I've sold and bought a bunch in this range with similar woods.

what makes the butt of the cue only 99% condition?....
 
Very, very nice cue. Love the balance of colors. My best guess would be $2300-2500 in today's market.

Because I have played with it. There are no dings or dents just a few light finish scuffs. I bet if I took it to a cuemaker they could buff it and you would think it was brand new and never played with.

I think this cue sells at $2300 and up all day long but maybe I'm wrong. It doesn't matter anyway because I wouldn't sell it at that price.

The problem

The problem is supply/demand...the demand for secondary market SW has went away...and the market is overloaded, and there are many other competitors at the price point

Don't shoot the messenger. It is what it is. I purchased two mint Franklins for $2400 each, and about 5 current SW's from $1700 to 2300. But, I love SW and am always on the look out for them. You should just keep it and play with it.

Sorry you if thought I was upset by your comments. I'm not at all, I asked for people's input and thats what you offered. Again thanks for your input.
 
I sold my Goncalo Alves SW for $2800.00 cash. Had the same rings except the points and butt sleeve were cocobolo. Would not let it go for less than that since it is a desirable wood combo.
You see other SW's that have the same rings (a and b) going for less because the wood combo is not very attractive.

how long ago did you sell your SW?

Your price estimate sounds right to me in this market. I don't think SW cues are as hot as they were a few months ago, but this is a nice one and it should bring top dollar.
