Infants at a tournament?

i don't think i've ever seen a baby refered to as an "it" so many times before.

as far as babies and children in attendance goes, i think players need to get used to it, and deal with it. you don't hear baseball, football, basketball etc players whining about crowd noise. if you want pool to become mainstream, don't ***** about the crowd.

Edit: and all the sports you mention have the crowds a lot further away than any pool match.

pool players more closely resemble the thugs from the sports i named than the refined upper class participants of golf and tennis.
 
This is so strange. If anybody should know proper etiquette in the pool world, you would think Alison would pratice good manners in a competitive tournament environment.

One year at the U.S. Open, Rodney's wife was in the tournament room with a young child who was making noise. The tournament director politely asked her to leave the room, realizing this kind of noise is disturbing in a tournament.

I wonder why nobody asked the person handling the baby to leave the premises if the baby was making so much racket. :confused:
 
i still don't understand the reason to have music in background during a pool match. Especially in this ultimate 10 ball championship i heard a pretty loud music in background. What's the reason for that? I bet players would like to have no music. Actually I noticed music in background only in pool matches, i never heard it during snooker, carom or russian pyramid matches.

As funny as that is, I agree with the OP. It's actually been a pet peeve of mine for, oh about 17 years now...( My oldest child just turned 17 last week) At ANY kind of function, if your child is making a fuss, you take them out of the room so as not to disturb the proceedings. Weddings, funerals, graduations, plays, meetings, concerts, and yes, pool matches. ANY function that requires quiet.

Any time one of our children was making a fuss and wasn't quieted down immediately, either my wife or I would take that child out to the lobby or wherever was appropriate, until that child calmed down. It's just common courtesy. And it frustrates me when others don't recognize the need for such courtesy.

I don't often listen to the streams, I just watch with the sound down, so I didn't notice this particular instance.

Last week one of my teammates couldn't make his match unless he brought his kids with him, because his wife was delayed and couldn't make it back in time. As captain, I told him to stay home with the kids, so I sympathize with Allison. I had options, perhaps Allison didn't.

If you don't like Allison, then don't watch her match. If I was a fan and at the event, I would offer to look after her child, or collect money to pay for a babysitter.

At what point did I say that I don't like Allison? I don't know her but my friends that do know her say that she is a very nice, pleasant lady. As for not watching her, that would not have done any good. Regardless of what stream I was watching, the kid could be heard. Also, at what point did I complain about the free stream? :rolleyes:

She didn't have the baby next to her at the tournament table, the baby was with Kristi Carter in the audience. The baby was not crying but it was squealing and making the sounds that babies make (quite loudly at times). It was every bit as disruptive as if the child had been crying.

For the person comparing a pool tournament to other sports that are played outside and where loud cheering crowds is common, all I have to say is "Really?". Apples and oranges.
 
I've missed more tournaments than I would have liked to, because the wife was working late, or the babysitter pulled a Claude Raines.

I would never even consider bringing a baby to a tournament.

Gimmie a break. I play in a league where the players whine 10x's more than any baby does! Crying baby....piece of cake.
 
Some people are just inconsiderate and could care less about other people.

I put them in the same class as the A Holes in the Priuses doing 60 in the fast lane on the freeway.

Sometimes your stuck,,it happens. To enter and watch event with baby,,,,or stay out and not watch??
It's simple,,,baby is being good,,,go for it! Once baby cries,,,must leave and there is no second chance,,,do not re enter room. People tolerate it once,,but the second time,,might as well be the 100th!! lol It's the truth though.
It's the price to pay as a parent.

Yep... Been there done that. My daughter is 19 now. When she was a baby, I made sure not to inconvience others becasue of my baby.

Many people don't.

Then go back to chess. If you lump all pool players into that category then maybe it's a game you don't need to be playing. Do you even play pool?
