Infants at a tournament?

Just so everyone is clear on this. in my first post in this thread I said "I have a feeling its Allison's baby" I was not there and do not know if I am right or not. So before anyone starts in on Allison for the baby it may not have been hers. Just saying so that people don't think what I said is eye witness, Thanks.

I talked to a buddy of mine this afternoon that was there and he said that Kristi was holding a baby in the tournament room so I think it is safe to say that it was Allison & Kristi's baby since there wasn't a plethora of babies in the tournament room. I recall seeing Cristina DLG in the chat saying that she couldn't come down to the tournament room because she was with her baby in the hotel room. Kudos to Cris for being considerate. Kristi & Allison should take an etiquette lesson from her.

It is simply unacceptable etiquette towards the players but it isn't just about them and whether they should have to fade the distraction. There are also the many paying fans and spectators who paid good money to come and enjoy the event that shouldn't have to deal with it. If you think it's only about the effect on the players then I guess you have no problem with a crying baby being next to you in a restaurant, on an airplane, or in the movies.

Very faint....

I watched the ladies Final. I heard a baby a couple times, very faintly, in the distance. I doubt it had any effect on any games.

The only sharking I observed was at the score of either 5-4 or 6-4 with Allison shooting the 6 ball, I beleive, into the corner. Ken Shuman was refereeing the Mens match and walked right into Allison's line of sight. He was even moving his hands behind his back which would have made me stand straight up.

Allison tried to focus and ended up missing this shot. She never even beat an eye, just walked over to her chair and sat down. "pure class"

I can't remember her missing another shot the rest of the match.

Once again, I ask, did any players complain?

Or is this just some random thread somebody dreamed up?

Personally, I wouldn't take my child to a pool match. But I have seen some kids at matches before. It doesn't bother me at all.

Adults do waaay more whining than any child I've known.;)

How much were the tickets to watch? Was the baby sitting in the front row, expensive seats?

Maybe the so-called "infant" felt like he was getting house racked, or even
worse maybe somebody stole his jump cue.

I don't even know what you are getting at but you didn't answer my question: Do you mind a crying baby sitting within earshot of you in a nice restaurant, on an airplane or in the movies? Yes or no? If you say it wouldn't bother you I don't believe you and if you say it would bother you but you should have to accept it, I don't agree with you.

good point about the music, and if they didn't play the stupid music maybe someone in charge would have noticed the baby

always with the stupid music at these things, ridiculous

Then go back to chess. If you lump all pool players into that category then maybe it's a game you don't need to be playing. Do you even play pool?
"refined upper class", my ass!

yes, i play pool. which means i dont ***** and whine about distractions. and i take responsibility for my misses, not blame them on something else. ie, the table is crooked, that baby is whining, the music is too loud, somebody walked in front of the table, etc.

the people who complain about a "distraction" causing them to miss, are the same people who's parents failed to teach them to take responsibility for their actions.

i dont have a problem with a baby at any of the locales you mentioned. the thing that i cant fade is unruly teenagers at movies.

Totally different atmospheres. Pool doesn't require too much listening or extreme quiet.

It's like comparing pool to basketball.

What I was asking about is not your local room but a professional tournament venue.

my phone is always on vibrate.

to answer your question more directly, no, i'm not an ashhole like you are so tactfully calling me.

I guess i'm just not a whiner, like some people seem to be.

Trying to defend squalling babies in the middle of a tournament room annoying fans and the players is a little absurd. Are you all just trying to play the devils advocate? Why the heck does a baby need to be in the tournament room? What benefit are they having by their being there? Because they are certainly having negative effects of being flat out annoying and affecting the concentration of the players.

In the world snooker championships going on atm you could hear a pin drop when the players are shooting, no cell phones going off (one did and the person got a very specific warning), people are asked to remain silent when the players are shooting, and there are certainly no babies in their bawling their eyes out.

Are you guys gonna sit there and pretend that it is better, or even as good if the Crucible allowed babies into the world snooker championships and suddenly all the fans and players had to deal with them crying all over the audience? Give me a friggin break, drop it already, they have NO PLACE in the tournament room, everyone with any common sense at all knows this.

Wow you guys bicker about the stupidest crap ive ever heard.... This how you all sound to me.....

Honestly, I'm not name calling at all. I'm just trying to figure out how someone who understands it is proper etiquette to turn the ringer off on their cell phone at a tournament doesn't get that a crying baby is a similar nuisance that shouldn't have to be tolerated, by either the players or the spectators.
