I saw this on the local Craigslist:
https://harrisonburg.craigslist.org/spo/d/billards-pool-table-slate/6276466306.html

Does anyone have any further information on this model? When i looked it up on the Brusnwick site, it appears this is NOT a Monarch: http://antiquetables.brunswickbilliards.com/our_rich_history/antique_tables/monarch.html

It does, however, look like it might be a Newport, or something like it: http://antiquetables.brunswickbilliards.com/our_rich_history/antique_tables/newport.html

How does one go about verifying authenticity on something like this? Also, my only table mechanic experience is in GC2s about 25 years ago. Is there anything I need to be aware of or on the look of when dealing with an older table like this?

This photo does not show detail but it does not look like a Newport or Saratoga. I have a Saratoga.

Unasked for advice? That's way too much for that table.

RakRunr...That may or may not be too much $$$ for that table. It would depend on a much closer examination by someone with much better knowledge of these antique tables. Pool table slate does not come from Vermont (Pennsylvania maybe). One thing for sure (I had a 1910 Madison), it will NOT play as well as a GC or a Diamond...no matter what you do...unless it's a playing restoration by someone like Glen Hancock (Real King Cobra) or Mark (PerfectPocketz). For that you'd have to spend as much as the table costs, imo.

Check out the dc listings. There was a gold crown on Fairfax that was just shared on azb the other day.

I appreciate the advice  - any idea what an acceptable range might be?

If you are looking for an antique table then, I don't know, maybe that's reasonable as an antique (I doubt it).

You can find (furniture) tables for around $500 and less if you look. I've seen 9' Gold Crowns in the $700-$1000 range pretty consistently, if you are looking for a solid table to play/practice on.

Edited to add:

I bought a solid no name 9' table with simonis cloth, two pool chairs, a cue rack, a table light, several house cues and two sets of Aramith balls for $500 as an example.

Seller probably calling it a monarch because it says the word monarch on it referring to the monarch rails. Many owners of these know very little about them.

Looks like an old POS to me. If you are a serious pool player move on. If you are a guy who likes antiques might be worth a look.

How is it even possible to have that crappy of a picture in today's electronic world? ha ha.

I would not take one of those antique tables if you paid me 2500. No way, not worth the hassle.

Thanks everyone, I think I'll pass on this one.

I want a player's table, but it has to be something my wife will approve as it will be in the main part of the house. She hates the GCs, but likes the Diamonds, so I'll probably just end up spending a bunch of money on one of those instead of less on something used.

Diamond also has a "furniture" line. About half the price of their commercial tables. And they play pretty good, from the few reviews about them on here.

For what it's worth, I believe that table is a Brunswick Victor.

As was already mentioned, unless that table is pristine, $2500 is way too much for a basic model antique.

Thanks - I told the guy I was going to pass. He had originally said he had another offer and that he needs it gone this week. I figure I'd let the other person have it, and I can't deal with it for at least two weeks anyway. He emailed back saying I could take it home for $1,000. I have not responded.
