Initial team usa squad is named for mosconi cup xxv

Not a serious estimation, but I'd bet that number would be a 7-digit one.

Really? Maybe if you add up all the players from Europe, Asia and the US.

My calculation for Europe, based on numbers I found for Austria and Germany, is somewhere around 120.000 and 150.000 registered pool players in Europe. (Men and Women combined).

The apa alone has close 250.000 . However.....i dont think you could add those numbers to advertised numbers of other leagues and get a fairly accurate number of total league players in the U S because quite a few play in more than one league. I myself have played in bcapl....usapl...apa...napa and tap and I am a current member in 3 of them at the moment.

Well, go back and read your own post. You were wondering about the U.S./Europe/and Asia. So, yeah....really.

Heck, there's over 250,000 members in the APA alone. Then there's BCAPL, VNEA, USPL, TAP, and several others I am probably omitting. And that's just leagues...in the United States. I'm fairly confident the number you were wondering about could easily reach seven digits.

I saw some of the players make announcements on facebook of making the cut of 8 players getting to go to Russia.

Shane Mcminn and Mitch Ellerman both posted on facebook they made the cut.

Chris Robinson posted that he didn't make the cut.

I guess we will know the rest soon lol

While the APA and other leagues have a lot of players, I am thinking that not more than 10% (and likely less) are in any way serious about the game of pool (meaning players that we would call "good" or lower levels that are working on getting better and play in tournaments outside of APA events).

I didn't realize they were making a cut this early. So they went from 16 to 8 and then they'll go to the Kremlin Cup in mid-September, and then I would guess shortly after that make the final cut.

I've known Shane since he was a kid, and I think he would be a great addition to the MC team.

The guy plays great under pressure, and has spent a lifetime on the road playing and gambling.

Doesn't hurt to grow up in a pool hall with Walden.

Why isn’t Bergman on the team? Also, Earl, Deuel, and Dechaine are better than at least three players that made the cut. Morris, too- but I guess he is kind of retired

Why isn’t Bergman on the team?
Bergman missed the last bootcamp and they are mandatory.

Even though SVB and Matchroom made that post about him not being on the team this year, he has participated in the bootcamps and i guess he plans on playing.

Ruisjink was at the CSI events in Vegas last week. As far as I know, Bergman was not there. All of the others listed by terryhanna as making the cut, including SVB (who won both pro events), were there. I don’t think Justin Hall was there either.

I actually saw Dechaine there, but he didn’t participate in any of the events.

We’ve gone around on this enough so I won’t belabor it. In my view, there are enough cases to know that total population is not related to a country’s top pool talent. That’s been disproven. There must be other factors that account for any differences. ...
I have heard that Poland, Taiwan, and mainland China have billiard instruction in schools for ages as young as 10. This compares to a lot of the US where people under 18 are frequently barred from whatever competitive play they have locally.

I somewhat understand the philosophy of having a boot camp, but it will result in not having the best players represent the country

Just take the first 5 on the list - seems like the smart money.
