Inside of a pool ball

I'm trying to find a picture of the inside of a pool ball. I've looked all over the internet and I can't find a single picture of a ball cut in half. My wife wants to make kind of art piece with billiard balls but before she starts buying the balls she wants to see what the inside looks like. Does anyone have a picture of a ball cut in half. Not a cue ball

I'm not sure if all balls brands are the same, but from what I've seen it's just white plastic resin, solid all the way through. Same as the outside, and any color die from the exterior bleeds inward about an eighth of an inch.

I have a lot laying around, if I think about it ill cut a couple in half today and post some pictures. I drilled a snooker ball once and it exploded.....maybe that's where they get the cherry bomb from.

I could not find the other thread, but somebody on AZ already posted pics of the inside of a cueball. Quess what was inside the cueball? It was the fourteen ball. LOL............Ron

I saw a show on TV called "sliced" where things get cut in half. They did a bar box cue ball and it had the metal in it. Then they cut the table and showed you the magnets in the return track.

a couple of things

Try a search on pool ball rings or maybe somebody here still has a link. Somebody was making rings to wear on your finger out of pool balls and the colors did show on these rings. No idea what brand of balls they were using or if all balls are the same though.

If your wife is buying new balls, consider the miniatures. With a little searching they can be found in volume for well under a dollar apiece. No idea if the outside colors go through on them though as I haven't had reason to cut any open.

In reality there little gremlins inside most pool balls that's why we miss so much.

Man you should have posted this a couple of weeks ago. I was playing a guy in 9 ball and it was my break. I broke about a med to med-hard speed and one of the balls (the 8 ball) pretty much exploded. There was a decent size chunk broken off from it.

So, we set the 8 ball aside and just decided to incorporate a different ball (the 10 ball). Well, about an hour later, it happened again. This time it was the four ball.

A couple of weeks ago, I could have snapped some photos for you.

I cut my Cougar cue ball in half and there was a 9 ball. jcurry is using half of it as a paper weight on his desk. :)

Note that the "eye" (white part where the numbers go) goes all the way through the ball. The numbers are routed and filled with black material and don't go all the way through. It they wanted to be really fancy, I suppose the white ends of a striped ball could be a cylinder that goes all the way through as well, at a right angle to the eye.

One warning: not all balls are like the one pictured. Some cheap models have the color painted on the surface and are solid white inside.

Just wondering.... what is the best tool to use to cut a billiard ball in half safely?

Gravity... go to an empty lot, throw the ball up high and away from you. It won't be in half, but it'll most likely be busted.

lol never mind... I'm just bored

An acetylene cutting torch with a number three tip should do just fine. Hold the ball in your left hand and the torch in your right, and have at it. Oh, you might want to use gloves. They'll keep the ball from being covered with blackened flesh and sinew. Glad I could help. :)
