Insidepool: Thanks for the stream. But won't buy day 2 & 3...

...unless you fix the login issue, either by fixing providers
or figuring out some workaround.

For those who missed the Earl vs. Efren stream (8 ball, race to 17, Earl wins 17-11)
- about 827523097 people have problems logging in.
I missed 2 hours of the match hassling with this problem.

It is absolutely NOT user error.
Not in most cases.
People wasted hours doing stuff like rebooting, deleting cache, refreshing,
logging in and out of ustream, trying other browsers, and so on.

But it's some stupid programming error or bug in the login system -
Names and passwords that are supposed to work, don't.
They are copied and pasted (or typed perfectly) from the emails
we all received, yet they give an authentication error.

The only reason I got on, is the admin for the chatroom (whoever that was)
sat there manually fixing all of these invalid names and passwords.
There must have been over a hundred. Some people never got it to work.

I did eventually, but I won't be buying more of this stream
(and possibly any other IP stream). Not out of spite, but because I flat out
don't trust it to work. I won't throw away money on a stream and then miss hours
of it due to technical glitches. Not for 10 bucks. I'd rather give 40 bucks to TAR
and watch a stream that has worked perfectly for years.

Thanks for reading my rant, especially if anyone from InsidePool is paying attention.
I understand you guys didn't personally create the shitty login code,
and don't run the login server.

But it's on you to find an alternative if your chosen stream provider sucks.

Well Said

I never got in! Did you ever get the User Name and Log In in the middle of the page? I never did. I tried the log in at the upper right corner. I paid for all 3 days...WTF!

Hardly the first time ustream has hard problems with PPV. Invicta Fighting Championships crashed the paywall during their first online PPV. Thankfully, mine worked, but it ended up with Invicta removing the paywall and refunding everyone.

Yeah I thought something like this may happen and it was one of the reasons I didn't buy the stream. When someone doesn't regularly do ppvs there are going to be bugs and they are going to be hard to work out on the fly. That's why I only buy ppvs from TAR and Accu-Stats. They both have a lot of experience and everything is of primo quality.

I cant even get the replay to work:-). My username and password was bogus too..However they did send me a new password really fast and I was able to see a great stream with Firefox.....

That's strange. My user name was just my e-mail account with the "@" and the "dot" replaced by underscores.

My password was one I made up previously for another stream, which is just my last name followed by the number "420".

Musta been kinda baked when I made that one up.:embarrassed2:

.. not sure of the name of the 3rd party provider...

but really should standardize to the same logon service as Accu-stats, then Tar and now big truck... same logon, same password... hit access content and a way you go!

Thanks to the OP.

I was hoping to get some feedback on this programming.... I waited out the first day to make sure it was all worthwhile. Now, I'm "out".

Although unrelated to the internet stream, did you know that players in the Mega Bucks League at Steinway had to pay the admission (albeit at a discount) to get into Steinway to play in their league? G-d forbid they get a glimpse of the match!!!

Yeah, it took my money for the 3 day pass much pretty easy but zero help and no response to any email.

Managed to log in

I managed to log in about 8:05 EST and got to watch the whole match after about a half-hour of trying. I was a bit worried that I might not be able to since so many people on the chat were having a hard time logging in. I purchased the one-day pass to give it a try, but probably won't subject myself to the hassle of another "log-in fail" session.

On the plus-side, it was a good match...for Earl. I think I saw Efren stroke the cue twice in the first five games - on his breaks.

I also bought the first night but will not be returning for 2nd and 3rd night due to numerous issues including:

  • Match was (and still is) advertised as beginning at 7 EST. After buying the stream, was advised that it does not actually start until 8 and no logins are allowed until 7:30. Actual start was closer to 8:30 (not sure when it actually started due to login issues).

  • Login did not work until well after match started despite continuous attempts and e-mail exchanges.

  • When it finally started, Broadcast was very choppy (strange in that free stream of warm-up was fine but actual match was not)

Never had these issues with TAR - also do not remember having to pay sales tax on a stream.

This is spot on. It's bad enough there are issues that might be out of InsidePool's control,
like the service generating logins and passwords that don't work.

But InsidePool doesn't do themselves any favors. Their flyers didn't list the start time.
The AZ post didn't either. A video on their page briefly flashed an alternate flyer with a 7:00 pm start time.
Then I find out elsewhere it's 7:30. Then it becomes "no, 7:30 is when we'll start permitting PPV logins,
the match is at 8:00". Which it didn't really.

Why block logins prior to 7:30? Wouldn't have been so bad, hassling for hours to get the logins working,
if I didn't actually miss any pool.

Insidepool put all the "buy" links front and center on their page, but many people were lost about where
to login (below the buy links is a free stream, below the free stream is a paid stream with login... confusing).
Then there's the "top right corner" login which is for insidepool's website and
completely unrelated to logging into the stream. But lots of people saw that and tried to use
the stream name and password there.

I didn't have the choppiness issues others had, but for a few people, it started fine, got choppy,
and stayed choppy for the rest of the match, they gave up and quit.

I understand some folks had problems logging on. I did too but got on in time for the start of the match. I thought the sound and image was fine, though I did get a little chop towards the end of the match, but nothing terrible. I think it bears mentioning that not everyone experienced problems, though I can't say what percentage did.

It should also be mentioned that the reason the start time of the match was delayed was to given folks more time to log on and/or fix woes accessing the stream.

Overall, I had a good experience. The match was exciting and the pool amazing.

I bought the 3-day pass Monday, and the login info worked the first time. I guess I was one of the few? The stream was never choppy for me.

I couldn't get in until it was already 11-8 score. I missed more than half the match. I won't be buying tonight either.
