Bob Byrne's are the best as far as i am concerned. his Vol I & Vol II are outstanding, as is his Power Pool workout. I think the SPF Instructors also have a DVD that is just as good too.

Just my $.02.

The PAT DVD's and workbooks are filled with drills to help you improve. Might want to check those out.

Doug-

It's just my opinion-I got and get more from Max's dvds than Mika's. IMHO Mika's dvd has superior production aspects (almost 3D), but I came away feeling that I had seen what Mika can do-rather than being taught how to do it.

Max, OTOH, shows and teaches in a less glitzy studio. But, I'm predjudiced- I have had the pleasure of playing and losing to Max. Not so with Mika.

I second the Little Joe recommendation. (Prepare yourself for multiple repetitions of concepts-demonstrated by various skill level players-I think that's the point-that the concepts work regardless of skill level.)

There's a lot of good stuff out there.

Bob Byrnes-you can't go wrong either.

Grady Matthews aint bad either

Are you looking to improve your fundamental and aiming, or game strategy?

As a B+, I'm guessing you know why you miss a shot, and how to control the cueball.

You may want to consider the accustats videos, watching how Pros make their shot decisions. Efren vs Archer 9-ball is very good, comes complete with a book showing the layout for each game and highlighting the important shots.

Jimmy Reid's videos are pretty good.

Plus he could use the financial help from a sale...

Out of Stroke

I have laided off for a year , i know iam jumping up when shoot. But dam the confidence in my game is just not there .l I just want come back bust everyone. I need drills for my stroke, and learn stuff i never new. i have great shot making skills . but when comes down to the playing smart i need to learn more. I play in Va. Beach Qmaster used to be A- player but
i want practice the right way . Everybody just wants to hustle me. know one wants to teach the game. Thats why iam looking for some instructional stuff

If I were in your position, Doug, I'd find a local instructor to work with one-on-one rather than trying to not get hustled in the rooms.

If you were quite good, those who knew you (and told their friends) will want a piece of you to be able to say "I beat Doug" or whatever.

Get private lessons. That will most likely be money well spent.

I had not played for 6months. I bot Max Eberle's Power Pool. It helped me a lot to rebuild my game by re-laying the foundations for a solid game. Much of it was a review, a much needed review of key fundamentals that can be relied upon when things get tense.

Again- it's just my opinion-but it was the right medicine for me at a similar time.

ps: ironically-I played Max at my first tournament back after watching the dvds. He beat me hill-hill in a short tournament race. I thanked him for the dvds-he thanked me for buying them.

Take care

good luck with your game-have fun

For instruction on stroke Max Eberly rocks.
All around production value Immo is very good.

For the shots and ideas VEPS by dr Dave.

Get youself some Accu- Stats DVDs and study the patterns and decisions
Made by players like archer. Duplicate that game as close as
possible . Video your self playing at home ( if you have a table).
If not , Take the cam-corder to the pool rooom . Get in your own world.
And anylize your choice of pattern vs the pros.Duplicate their patterns and choices . You have to play the game not the OP. When you know the right. shots and you notice your OP does not, Then they become beatable. Take time out to work on it. Dont duplicate your OPs game.
Good luck

Petey-

A very thoughtful and insightful post. Excellent advice re the thinking part of the game. The successful players(pros and others) win because they're smart enouth to make the right choices in applying their knowledge and skills.

Superior shotmaking, among these guys may not be enough.

Good post/good advice for the original poster(OP).

Take care

Instructional DVDs

Gradys tapes are all great , no fantasy shots or mumbo jumbo , just meat and potatoes stuff that wins lots of games.

If you are looking for the Fundamentals of your game then:

Scott Lee & Randy Goettlicher have one of the best DVD's on the market.

"Mastering the Basics" can be found at Bebobs.

jimmy reids are the best imo. if you are a b+ player and go with the mika dvds, you can skip one and two and just buy the 3rd dvd.
