In reading through some threads recently, I though this would make a nice topic for consumption and discussion. Now, I will be the first to admit, it is a little self-serving, as I would like to see some of Mr. Wayne's design inspirations that he alluded to. So, hopefully he will chime in at some point and offer us a few kernels into some of his other design inspirations that the public hasn't heard about before.
The below cue is my buddy Matt's and it was made by Andy and Vicki Gilbert. It is known as the Circus Circus cue, and the inspiration was some interlocking design work in the building facade there. I consider it one of the neatest Gilberts that has ever been made, imo. Here are a few pics below.
The cue is comprised of pink ivory burl as the base wood, veneered ivory points, outlined ivory windows in the butt with shell inlays where they overlap and interlaced black veneer lines. It sports some very unique silver and ivory ring work, and is finished off with an ivory joint, butt cap, and real lizard wrap. It is interesting to note, that zero work in this cue was done using cnc....all the inlays were accomplished on a manual pantograph, as with all of Andy and Vicki's cues.
This thread is simply about neat cues and their inspiration. By "inspiration" I would like to limit this to non-cue inspiration.....so no tributes or copies of other cue work. Just new, fresh ideas that represent the maker's artistic interpretation of something else entirely, outside of pool and the common cue designs we've become accustomed to seeing.
So, having said that, let's see what everyone would like to put forth. Please no arguing/debate over how someone did what, 3d-4d-5d etc....lol....or the price of labor in China/Indonesia/wherever.
This is meant simply as a fun, somewhat educational outlet for us all to view some different style cues (outside "the norm") and learn about the history and inspirations behind them.
Thanks in advance for participating.
