I have heard from several people recently that VIP Billiards in Catonsville, MD is/has gone out of business. As the owner of VIP, this was certainly fascinating! While yes, our website is undergoing a full rebuild and yes, I have expressed interest in selling off some of our non-Brunswick tables - we are pretty far from going out of business.
One year has now passed since my wife and I purchased VIP Billiards, and we think we have made great progress in our goal of owning a room "by pool players FOR pool players". Change doesn't happen overnight however, but we are moving fairly quickly in the right direction.

VIP Billiards in Catonsville is doing fine, getting better everyday, and we are really far from going under. To those creating and spreading these rumors, whatever your reasons may be - check your facts or check your words. Thank you.

Well, we didn't take over the pool room to get rich, that's for sure! We took it over to prevent yet another room in the area from closing down, and hearing rumors that we are out of business just hurts all of the players in the area.

Yep, out of business, but you still come to work every day. Boss must love you>!!>

Any truth to the rumor you are paying people to play there and giving away free food and drinks?
 
Great Room

I know that when we had a tournament in there recently that the tables played fantastic and the room had a great layout for a weekend event!

I wish both of you great success and hope to be back again.

Wish I lived a little closer!!

I have enjoyed two tournaments at your place and enjoy the atmosphere. My only complaint is that there is no consistency with your tables...i.e. 3 or 4 different types with the biggest issue those cosmo tables. :)

A few captains chairs with padding would be a good touch.. but that might spoil a player/railbird!

I agree, the Cosmos tables are not "all that" and we try to avoid using those in tournaments. I would love to sell them off and replace them with Crowns, Diamonds, or even Ollhausen's - but until then I have to live with what came with the room when we bought it.

Not that I plan on keeping those tables forever, but they work very well for our regular recreational customers as they are very well made tables. Another argument is that good pool players should be able to win on any table, with any cloth, in any environment. With that being said, I definitely plan on replacing those as soon as we can afford 8 more tables!

Not including the 3-cushion tables, we only have 2 other types - not the 3-4 that you allude to in your post. We have 12 Gold Crown III's and the 8 Cosmo's. All are 9ft tables and half of those have recently been recovered. The newly recovered tables are tournament blue, the remainder will be done in tournament green as we have customers with different preferences. We also offer our players tables with different pocket sizes. The best of the shooters prefer the "quad" shimmed tables, most better shooters prefer the triple shimmed tables, some like the double shimmed, and the rec customers, which represent the majority of our day to day customers play on the standard pockets. We try to have something for everyone!

Now, if anyone on here would like to buy some very high quality, granite bed Cosmos tables...
