I am thinking about creating a website with a lot of media content and I wanted to get a feel for what kind of speed you have when getting to the internet.

Thanks for the feedback!

Cable is probably the most prevalent... I think anyway. My cable is closest to a cheap T1 in actual throughput so I chose that... but seriously, how could you not have cable?

I just got AT&T Universe for internet and television (Tuesday 15-Jan-2008). Uses fiber optics. Internet does not seem to match any of your choices.

Downstream up to 6 Mbps
Upstream up to 1 Mbps

Faster than my old DSL.

I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to stick it to the man (cable company). Plenty of channels and less cost.

Only downside is you are limited to four (4) people watching TV at one time. With four (4) kids at home and everybody has a TV in their room, we had to cut back. Upside is system comes with a digital video recoder that can record up to four (4) standard TV channels at once. Up to 320 channels. HD channels too.

T1 is for Chumps

2 Gigabit/sec from Work. :) :) :)

Not that I would check AZB from work. Really. No really, that would be wrong. Except maybe at lunch, or during really really boring meetings, or Friday afternoon - but other than that no way, definitely wrong.

3Mbps DSL from home.

I'm gonna get my geek on here... but I have a T3 line to my home.... only until fiber is available.

p.s. most cable lines are faster than T1

p.p.s. ISDN and DSL are the same thing

now I'll get my geek off. ... oh wait wrong website ...:D

LOL....Dude....do you live in the White House? That is some serious intranet goodness right there. (My google-fu tells me a T3 is 30 times faster than a T1.) :D

LOL the only thing better than T3 to the home is having it TAX DEDUCTABLE

gotta love business expenses.:D :D

I live 5 miles from Geek ground zero (Intel campus) and Intel/Verizon has 300 homes including mine wired up to this T-1 fiber optic thing that costs me fifty bucks a month. Should I cancel this ??

A T1 is only 1.544 Mbps (mega bits per second). In general, you can get up to 6 Mbps via cable or DSL now. I have 6 Mbps DSL and pay much less than $50 pr/mo. You can probably save $15 pr/mo and get 3 times faster speed if you make a change.

I am curious. I see people throwing big numbers around like 4 -6 Mbs on DSL....what is the true stable up and down speed of these connections. My experience is that most providers turn into used car salesmen when it comes to connection speed. In other words are you really getting these super speeds?

This is me on Midco cable in BFE South Dakota:

I guess that I just don't understand what all this means.
I'm on Verizon DSL and when I click on the little picture of the computer in the bottom right of my screen it says:
Speed: 54.0 Mbps
Signal Strength: Excellent

When I ran the test on the link that you provided, I got:
Test from Tampa to Miami
00696
00134

Test from Tampa to Los Angeles
00689
00134
