Intro and Brunswick Marquette question

Hello all -

Longtime lurker/searcher here that finally has a question I haven't been able to find the answer to here or anywhere else, so figured I'd sign up and throw it out there. Grew up playing on my dad's table (Hawthorne by Brunswick, I think?) and got a Centurion as soon as I moved out and had the space and money (which took a looong time). Sold it with a house a few years back and have been wanting a table ever since.

Anyway, the Marquette question comes up because my great aunt has deteriorated to the point that the family has to move her to a nursing home, and she has a Marquette set that was her husband's who died several years ago and has been collecting dust since. She wants all her stuff to stay in our (very big) family, and since I'm the only one interested in it, I'm the lucky guy. Problem is, I want to pay her a fair price for it but can find very little info at all, much less used pricing info, for it. I obviously want to give her a fair price (WOW nursing homes are ridiculously expensive!), but I can't find any used sale values at all. I found a post here that lists the 2005 retail as $23,499 (thanks, JAM!), and a Southern Cal B&B that has the bar listed for $13,499 (http://billiardsandbarstools.com/br...mited-edition-marquette-bar.html#.XHl5kFxKiHs), but nothing for the cue rack and "Marquette Print" that complete the set (or, what the 'set' price was). I know in general the resale value of tables usually plummet from retail or even wholesale, but I don't know if the relative rarity (160 total made, supposedly) and/or having the complete set would make it worth more on the used market. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Are you interested in keeping or selling on aunts behalf?

Honestly, there are probably only a handful of folks here who know what you are talking about, without pictures or research...it is really specialized knowledge and maybe blatt's billiards would be a beneficial call.

If you listed it for $2500, it would not sell.

Therefore, it is worth less than $2500

I want to keep it, if at all possible - it depends on what it's worth. If it's anywhere near the retail values I won't be able to afford it, but if not, it depends on what I can talk my wife into...

Good luck, no matter which way ya go.

You read like a fine human.

Added a pic of the brochure I found on the Brunswick history site - maybe that'll help...

I didn't realize it was a reproduction set , when I first commented ,sorry.
I agree 2500 to 3000 would be top money on Craigslist , unless someone thought it was an original.

In a search for similar tables sold I think I would expand the search to include models like the Rochester and Pfister, and I think there might be another model, or two in that same family of Brunswick victorian era tables. Wonderful antiques, but most I see on eBay just don’t seem to move. There was a Pfister in Colorado listed on eBay recently that was really impressive (professionally restored). It might be a good idea to check that listing out to see what that one sold for. If you can even do that anymore on ebay. IMHO the mediocre refinish jobs really hurt the values of so many of those great old BBC tables. The term “Restored” is so often misused during listings.

Edit: okay same here, I didn’t realize it was a reproduction. 2500 would be fair for one cared for. Just nothing like the real deal BBC tables, so repops are going to be deal breakers for me.

it looks beautiful to me

i like the bar and the table

Thanks for the replies - I'm surprised at how low the estimates are given the original retail of $23K+ on the table. It's technically good for me, I guess, but not for my aunt. And, the rest of the fam may not believe it's not worth more for the same reason as me. I'm certainly going to give her more than the $3K high estimate for the table - just not sure how much more. Talk about a moral/ethical minefield!

A table like this would likely be for some rich person to stick in the house as decoration to fill in an empty room more than for people looking for a pool table to play on. Used Gold Crown or a Diamond are pretty much the limit of tables that pool players look for if they can fit a 9 footer in their house.

It may sell for more but not to a pool player or any "regular" person that may be looking for things. A decorator that does high end houses may pay more or if you run into some millionaire looking for a table that is looking for design as much as anything else.
