Hey I had a question about whether or not you guys play with an ipod. I have tried it multiple times due to ambient noise or people trying to talk to me while im shooting and the ear buds tend to ward people off.

If yes than what do you listen to while playing.

No i dont, and imho i dont think it belongs in pool.

Its annoying when you are trying to tell someone something or ask them a question.

I listen to one while I play and I love it. It blocks out the annoying music that's blasted while I'm playing and completely shuts out any other noise. It's true that I can't hear others - even my opponent, so I make it a point to keep my eye on him or her during our match.

What do I listen to? Mostly classic rock. And by the way, my percentage of wins has gone up since I started "iPodding" while playing.

I will admit the thought of not having to listen to some of the crap that people play at the bar seems nice.

I listen to my Ipod when Im practicing, keeps me calm with all the slow playing songs on it..but come game time, I take them off, the earphones distract me

At DCC it's perfectly okay.

It's great to pay airfare and hotel for a night, wait forever, and play someone you don't have to talk to.

What a wonderful world!

Depends on who I am playing, sometimes I play music or sometimes there is nothing at all I just use it so my opponent won't try to talk to me or to drown out the loud railbirds. Only during local tournaments do I find myself using it because people are "familiar" with you and so they talk to you between shots, from the rail or otherwise when you are trying your hardest to play the match seriously even though they aren't.

Out of town I don't wear it because it's usually a decent sized tournament, like KF Tour or SE Open, and people are respectful of not intentionally or unintentionally sharking you. Never thought about it till now but it's my friends that I try to avoid listening to/talking to during a match, I try to play every match hard so talking isn't something I do. When someone says something I

Since I am very easily distracted I try not to talk or carry on a conversation because I will then want to talk and not focus on playing, so I know it sounds rude that I want to drown out my friends talking but I am doing it to avoid my weakness. Maybe if my concentration was better I could talk to them all I want between shots then get down on the shot and be able to focus 100%.

Also I only wear it in one ear 90% of the time, the only time I wear both earbuds is when I am playing someone I really dislike, I think it's a good compromise to the arguments that people post about not liking Ipods.

I have been thinking about using one while I am practicing but have the wires tucked under my shirt like I am at the gym, because the wires of my headphone might get in the way of me shooting.

My .02 is I will use it while practicing and no one is talking to me. The reason being that my music is "good" lol and it puts me in a good groove. I wouldn't have it very loud anyway. I like to listen to santana and all they are playing at the freaken pool hall are these crappy new hip hop sh!t like swagger like us ot that bs soulja boy crap, god what happen to good music? anyhow, but that's the reason I would consider using my mp3 player.

Happy shooting! :)

My iPod has video capabilities.

So, I watch Harry Potter movies on my iPod while playing, and I use my Harry Potter magical wand as my cue.

Seriously.....I don't use my iPod when I'm playing pool.

I realize you are talking about practice, but I've seen players using their iPods while playing matches. I think it's bad etiquette when you are playing with an opponent, whether practice or competition.

I think listening to your iPod during "solo" practice is acceptable behavior.

If I were to listen to my iPod, I would listen to the 80's rock "hair" bands. That kind of music is nostalgic for me. It takes me to my "happy" place.

If I'm waiting for an open table, then I'd watch the movie "Happy Gilmore" on my iPod. The part where he's telling Happy to "tippidity-tap" the ball in....is very helpful for playing pool.

BTW: I've seen the Harry Potter magical wands for sale on the SkyMall magazines. I know you want to buy one....:D

I have, I don't see a problem with it. At other times you will find me singing along to whatever might be playing on the radio, or singing whatever my ipod is playing if there is no music.

I play better with the ipod. especially if I need to turn a set around or if my opponent can't shut his mouth.

This practice does offend the house man and thus has its own set of consequences though.

I play with my i-pod and I also love it. The music I listen to is the music I like to hear and a lot of it, is music I played to, at a much younger age.

Someone asked me one night what I listened to and I replied, "It's a recording of my wife's voice telling me, we need the money."

I think that they should be banned from tourneys. I am fine w/ it anywhere else, but the user should be prepared to assume responsibility for anything that happens as a result of lost sense: I told you I wanted someone to call the hit...you are on two, etc...

the pool hall i go to people would probably tap you on the shoulder to ask what you're listening to or they'd use it as a reason to pick a fight

I just recently started listening to my Ipod during my practice sessions. It cuts out all the background noise and the music I don't like. It really increases my concentration and makes for a more productive practice session. I never listen to it while I'm playing somebody. Just during practice. Like Allen Iverson said, "We're talking about practice. Not the game, but practice.

I listen to Jeff Beck - Nadia. Yeah, just one song, over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over... you get the picture! :)

*No, I'm not taking my pills today!*

I keep my Ipod nano in my pool case and listen to it every time I practice. I rarely use it in competition though. I feel during practice it helps me get in a groove and I find myself shooting better when my favorite songs come on. At the pool hall I use it if I am playing alone or if the music coming from the speakers sucks.

I will also often find myself with one ear bud in in order to maintain contact with those around me. No one has ever complained about me having it in though.

I know BCA doesnt let you use it during competitions but does anyone know about other leagues? How about major tournaments?

I have been using one for a while now & love it. I don't see any problems with them. If you had a deaf handicap person playing would they be told they could not participate because they can't hear the noise around them. Not to mention I can't stand the racket of this new hip hop crap on jukeboxes this "young generation" plays while trying to pull up those pants hanging down around their a**. It's country & classic rock for me.
