Sigel quit playing because the pressure to make a decent living was too great. Trust me, if the purses they played for were similar to golf, he NEVER would have quit. I hope this match happens.

Mike Sigel

The idea that Sigel quit because he could not compete is, IMO, just wrong. He made it very clear at the time that he quit pro pool because there was no money to be made in it. As I remember his retirement story made the cover of Billiards Digest with the caption "Show Me the Money". Mike told me at the time that he could make more money building cues than playing pool. If my memory serves me properly he was still at or very near the top of the 'most feared player' list when he stopped playing.

Is there a reason you initial-cap every single word in your sentences?

I find this a strange writing style, one which is usually used for discreet identity purposes.

Mike Sigel

Jerry,

In my mind Mike Sigel is one of the best straight pool players and has the record to prove it. I personally would like to see a high stake winner takes all straight pool match perhaps best of 3 with each game of 250 points.

This would pretty much elimate any one inning run outs but it could happen. I would also suggest that each and any 250 run out pays a 25% bonus of whatever the total purse would be. Ideally, a $100K purse winner takes all would certainly raise the pressure element and interest.

Now would Sigel put up his own money for a challenge match or any match as far as that goes? Questionable! If not perhaps you open it up with an entry fee depending on the number of players and then proceed with a single elimination format. Sigel may not participate if he has to put up his own cash.

Did Sigel participate in the straight pool event that Hopkins put together which was an entry fee event?

I don't know of many pool players that would put up $100k themselves except maybe Fatboy. I am sure he could find a backer that would put up the cash though.

That's exactly what happened. And although his cue making business didn't quite take off as he had hoped, another factor that helped him decide to retire was he had gotten re-married and had just had a baby. Well, really Rene did....Anyway, Mike wanted to spend more time at home with his new family. The constant travel at the age he was began to be a real grind on him.

If John wants to play him, I'll go in with John. I just like his present day skills more than I like Sigel's. Now if this were 15 years ago....but it's NOT!

i think you should give the guy more respect. I mean he is a bona fide world champ ,he beat wu and david broxson in the ipt and they are both top players. He beat me as well and was respectful after the match, a lot of his talking is for effect and he is a different person 1 on 1 and
I'm not sure he is a big underdog against Schmidt playing straight pool
