There is so much going on here I'm not sure what to report right now, but I'll provide some regular updates in this thread.

Feel free to ask me about any particular players and matches and I'll see what I can find out. I'll try to check in each hour.

A few things to note: Pockets are just 4.25" this event and though they were playing bigger early on, they are starting to tighten up.

Dalls West was playing some great pool.

Boyes looks strong with a huge break....most are struggling with the break with about 70% of dry breaks. In one of my matches yesterday we had 11 straight dry breaks...urghhhh.

Anyway, send in a few queries and I'll see if I can help.

Keep us updated on Shane VanBoening. He lost 8-7 to John Wims and someone just told me that he was 0-3 down against Thorsten Hohmann and ended up winning 8-3! :D

I just walked back in and there was a big discussion with refs and players in the Quinten Hann v David Alcaide match.

It was discovered that Alcaide had been breaking with a phenolic tip. Quinten was asking that he be disqualified from the match. Instead he was penalized the previous game he had one. Changing the score from 5-5 to 6-4 in Quinten's favor. Quinten beat Jimmy White 8-4? the match before and is looking dangerous.

I saw a bit of both those matches. John is a fellow Aussie and a very strong player...was a close match.

I will keep an eye on SVB:-)

Nice try Colin :) but John is from Celbridge, County Kildare in Ireland and although Oceanic champion (and listed under the Aussie flag), he is Irish :)

Nice Idea Colin, thanks!

It appears that the English 8 ballers are holding their own, any thoughts on any of them you may have watched play on the 'bigger tables' ?

Good work Colin.

Would be interested to hear about Phil Harrison v Linda Carter.

Interesting news on Quinten - that young man is never far from controversy! Exceptional talent though.

Ortmann 7-5 on Immonen.
Jimmy White lost his second game 5-8

There's no equipment inspection prior to a match? You'd think if they're going to put restrictions on the equipment you can use, that they'd actually *look* at what the players are bringing to the table.

LOL made me laugh though, MR Colenso knows where Johns from sneaky sod, although to be fair he is an Aussie citizen now.

Interesting to see that Stan James are staying away from Quintens games aye Colin ;)

Just caught a glimpse of scoreboard from Immonen v Ortmann so I'm not 100% sure, but it looked like 8-5 to Ortmann final score.

Fisher 6-6 with Lohtander - players on a break.

Phil played very strong against Linda and won 8-2.

I think Linda is playing very well considering the standard of her competition. I've seen her make a few very nice outs.

Alcaide came back and led 7-6 after the controversy. Then Quinten came back with some great potting to take the match.

The English style pool players are looking very strong. Should be half a dozen of them left in the last 30 I expect.

I also saw Garahann (sp?) win his last two games to beat Earl 8-7. Earl was heard commenting that this guy couldn't play a radio:rolleyes:

btw: Shane, yes, u got me on John's origins,,,lol. He's currently struggling 7-5 down against the young Vidas who is being touted as a player to watch.

yup...no inspections...but hard to hide a phenolic for long. Someone will hear the metalic sound.

Hey MR Riley!

Quinten already seems to have the refs on edge. lol

btw. Can't get on msn yet. I'll have a few days to prepare my list of excuses:D

Thanks Colin. Phil is going to be tough to beat.

Interesting to see if Sigel tries to be so vocal with Phil who wears a hearing aid.

How is Cory Deuel doing? I do not hear about him so much lately. He is a top player, just nothing much about him.

I'm not sure a few days is going to be enough lol, what was you playing at!!! I told you to shark Ralph by wearing a huge wall mounted clock on your wrist! :) Yep the 8 ballers look good, next groups will be hard though. I had to play 10 hours a day for the first two days in the 14.1 event mate and it nearly killed me lol, imagine what its going to be like after 4 or 5, will be shocked if any of the older guys make it, although would love to see Efren prove me wrong.

PS
Sadly everyone Colin won't be posting anymore, he's discovered the strip clubs but he said he will be back for the WO in a few months.

Here's a link to his group:

http://www.internationalpooltour.co...na_8ball_open/scoresheets/ViewGroups.asp?G=18

So far, he's lost one match 8-5.

What would be *really* nice is if they displayed both values in each block, at least for the winners - so you could see how many games the opponent got on the winning player without having to change gears and look for it elsewhere in the block. Like "8 (5)" instead of just "8".

That, and displaying in some obvious manner just WHICH players are advancing out of each group. :D

Hello,
Earl Strickland changed the shaft on his break cue at 6-4 up over Miyuki Sakai and the shaft he started using from that point on had a phenolic tip and ferrule- clear as day to see in the close-ups. We've been discussing this over on the Pro9 forums and apparently (thanks Mr D'Vali) it is legal to use a phenolic tip provided there is some leather component in it. Therefore the Predator BK 2 is legal as there is a thin layer of leather somewhere in the tip's construction which, apparently, means it doesn't count as being phenolic! This might theoretically apply to the tip Earl was using too, then, but I don't think so as it was a one piece ferrule/tip combo as I say.

Seems unfair if Alcaide got penalised and Earl didn't. Very inconsistent refereeing all round.

Sorry this is long,

Chris (Chrstc).
