I'm not sure a few days is going to be enough lol, what was you playing at!!! I told you to shark Ralph by wearing a huge wall mounted clock on your wrist! :) Yep the 8 ballers look good, next groups will be hard though. I had to play 10 hours a day for the first two days in the 14.1 event mate and it nearly killed me lol, imagine what its going to be like after 4 or 5, will be shocked if any of the older guys make it, although would love to see Efren prove me wrong.

PS
Sadly everyone Colin won't be posting anymore, he's discovered the strip clubs but he said he will be back for the WO in a few months.

Efren thrives on all day/all night action. He said that he feels he has the advantage in the stamina department since he regularly plays for several days in a row in action and exhibition games.

A question for you. It appears that many breaks are coming up dry giving the non breaking player a shot at the table.

I don't think there are any official statistics on this, but from your observations, how often is the player coming to the table after the break running out? Conversely, how often are there multiple innings for the players?

Regarding the break cues. From what I understand the part of the cue that hits the cueball must be made of leather, not partially leather. I altered the Fury Jump/Break cue so that it has a 100% leather tip on it and gave one each to Kelly Fisher, Austin Murphy, and Ronnie O'Sullivan (his will be there in the morning). These three shafts conform 100% to the rule as it is understood.

2.0 Cue Stick Specifications
All cue sticks must meet the following specifications:
a. No shorter than 53" and no longer than 63"
b. No lighter than 15 ounces and no heavier than 25 ounces.
c. Balance point at least 33" from the tip of the cue.
d. Leather cue tip.
Referees or IPT officials may inspect any cue at any time. If a cue that does not meet specifications is found being used by a player it will result in an immediate loss of a game or more depending on the magnitude of the offense.

I don't see anything that leaves it open to interpretation that a partially leather tip qualifies. Plus, if Earl really did start using a phenolic tip then he is a huge hypocrite. Maybe they should have a weigh-in like in horse racing to make everyone submit their stuff for inspection. Personally I thin kthat everyone should be allowed to use whatever they want as long as they are not harming the equipment or distracting the other players. I mean really, who is going to be checking balance points or weights? I bet there is not a single scale at the tournament EXCEPT for Joe Blackburn's.

Thank you for the updates everyone. Does anyone know if Kelly Fisher made it to the next round? Thank you. Johnnyt

She's playing Orcullo now. Her and Catledge are in contention for the advance. If one wins and the other loses then the winner advances. If they both win then Catledge goes through because he beat her when they played. If they both lose then Catledge has to make up the six games that he is behind Kelly in the winning percentage category.

If only she had beat him then it would be a virtual lock for her. Tough action all the way around. Kelly feels like she could have won against both Catledge and Abood. Just a few mistakes and some bad rolls.

Well, I am holding my breath and rooting for Jon Kutcher to have the best match of his life and beat Wayne 8:0 (sorry Wayne but I gotta pull for my girl).

The strip clubs wouldn't take my money. I tried to tell them 5 jiao was a lot of money in western China....:p

I also think a few of the Brits are big threats here. esp. Boyes, Appleton and Hill.

Colin

I saw Boyes at the HardTimes qualifier. Very solid, with a strong break. Gallego is the only one who beat him. It will take one of the big boys to take him down I think, if he stays that solid.

Interesting matches that are brewing.

Efren vs Gabby Owen both are 3-0..who will have the blemished coming to next round..?

Varner and Incardona...both only have 1 win..and whoever won this one..will move to the next round and the other one is obvious..two on their brackets are having identical 3-0..

Any updates on this one Colin?

Gabe & Efren

Any updates on Gabe and Efren? Inquiring minds want to know ... lol

Also, How is Matlock doing? He has to win to get in.

It seems as if Efren got the best of Gabe, beating Owen 8-3.

Also, Django just whitewashed Kelly 8-0. How strong is Busta playing? He just dominated his group, going undefeated with a 89% winning percentage. He basically won every match with an average score of 8-1.

This will be interesting, but Efren and Django are both top in their groups, and should be meeting each other in round 2. And if Sigel loses his match to Harrison, then Mike the Mouth will be joining their group as well. That would be a group to keep an eye on. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in last year's KOTH seeing each other in only round 2 of this tournament.

EDIT: Nevermind about Mike. Just got the update that he beat Harrison, so Harrison will be the one meeting Efren and Busta in round 2. Sigel went undefeated for the day. Impressive, but Mike had 5 BNRs in that match with Harrison. It seems like he's in stroke.

Don't have the score but I heard Kelly is out. :-( She joins a lot of other GOOD PLAYERS though and will be ready for the next one.

How about Allison winning ALL of her matches? And I think Loree Jon advanced as well, if I read the group right.

Gerda H. must be in to. She is in a three way tie and has the winning percentage, even if she is one and three.

Yeah by only 1% Amazingly close, that would drive me crazy if I lost by only 1%, I would be like man, if I could have won just one other game.

One thing is for sure, this will force people to try to win every game they can, one game could knock you out.

My guess is that dry breaks are around 60%+ of total games, though some players with huge breaks seem to be doing ok. Some tables work better than others for some reason....and same goes for clean ups after break.

There are less clean up after breaks than I expected, especially today as the tables began to play tighter. I guess as chalk and grease starts to work into the cloth around the jaws and the fibres become compressed and more grippy. My guess is mid-field players are going out the shot after break less than 50-60%....the top 20 are probably in the 70-80% zone.

These stats would be much higher I am sure if the pockets were 4.8" But these are 4.25" and they will get tighter each day. Also, most players are still getting used to the slippery, slowish rails.

Colin

btw: Our own Linda 'Rackemsucker' Carter, who showed promise all day, came up with some great pool in her last match against qualifier David Broxson by taking him to the double-hill after trailing 7-3? (or something like that). She made a few very impressive outs and gained the enthusiastic following of a small crowd of onlookers and supporters.

She would have taken that match except for a slight loss of concentration on a ball that would have left her with a relatively easy out chance.

The Queen certainly does have a good game in her and I'm glad to say we got to see some of it today.
