IPT - Results and Queries here!

Is the tie-breaker the player with the highest win percentage ?

If so Ronnie O'Sullivan makes it.:)

Allison

No one has mentioned the beating Allison took today, not winning a match.
It might a dent in her mindset. Quite frankly, I don't see as many women competing in the future for the IPT.

Just wanted to ask

This open is such a big event with some outstanding prize funds and a fantastic venue that brought the cream of the crop of players from all over the world.

Why are there so few referees to cover matches. On a Televised match there was still only 1 referee between 2 tables. I appreciate there a lot of matches going on at once but for such a big event like this I would have expected a lot more capacity to cover such a important role like a ref.

2nd question. I know it related to my first query as there probably not enough refs to do this but i personally thought someone neutral like a ref should be doing the racking. Not that i am insinuating anything but this cuts out all the dodgy racks and excuses etc. Not to mention some of the players can actually read the pack and make a ball simply by looking at the pack, gaps etc.

Like a match i was watching yesterday someone had just racked a pack that was not even horizontal to the table and from the overhead shot it was clearly at a angle. Having a ref racking it would not only rack it the same each time but it would cut out any advantage/disadvantage. I am not familar the customs of american 8 ball so i may be going against tradition or rules etc but it was just a thought to be the fairest way?

I'm very impressed with my fellow countryman Ivica Putnik. 5 break and runs against Hann. Wow. If he didn't dog that 8ball for the win agains Alcano, he would be one of the few with a perfect record. Watch out for him!

Yeah, Ivica is a funny man and a good player ! Good luck to him !

I think the match of the day was Finland's Markus Juva's near-perfect match against Bernd Jahnke. Markus won the lag and ran 7 consecutive racks only to hook himself on the penultimate ball on rack 8. :( Would've been nice to ran the whole match out from the lag... :p Watch our for him and the rest of Finns. All 3 have proceeded to round 3.

At 250-1 Juva is prob the steal of the round betting wise, apart from stalev at 150-1 that is. Stalev is looking super good, young, monster break, big money player, great potter. I remember his break from the US open it sticks in my mind it was that good.

True. I've seen Stalev a couple of times in action (live) and he has a monster break and one of the smoothest strokes there is. Also, he's used to big games, pressure etc. Looking at Stalev's break'n'run record I think he's shooting 'em straight.

Very interesting round 3 coming up... Go Finland !!

Ahh, dammit... Mika is English... naaah ;)

Haha, Brits taking over pool world, run for cover !!! :D

Btw, met Mick Hill back in 1997, he was playing in junior EPC here in Finland and I think he won bronze in straight pool, and I think I refereed a couple of his matches. Very good player !

hehe, yeah he is. I'll swap you Mika for Diks? Since they are both representing countries they weren't born in! ;)

What´s up with that, I know Diks won a Swiss qualification tournament but that doesn´t make him swiss now does it? If anything he should be registered as a brit, he´s been living there for years.

Hey now, that's 9 filipinos. :p

It's nice to see Pagulayan and Lining pull of their final two matches of the night to make it through to round 3. You just can not bet against the Filipinos when it comes down to the 4th or 5th match of a long grueling day. They'll just out last you endurance wise.

A glaring elimination is Oliver Ortmann, who only won 2 games in his tough group (Hohmann, Tot, Peach advanced). I expected Oliver to go far.

Group 63, consisting of Django, Boyes, Deuel, Hann, and Ronnie O is definitely the toughest group of the bunch. I'm not familiar with Hann, but by the way he has been playing this tournament, I don't expect Deuel and Ronnie O to make it through this group.

Rafael is the only undefeated player remaining. It's nice to see a Latin American player advancing so far and doing so well.

I love how the group page is now filled with the flags of the players' representative countries. It's nice to see how "international" this tour really is.

Question for TheOne or any of the Brits out there...why do some Brits have the English flag (St. George) and some Brits have the UK flag (Union Jack)? For example, Ronnie O has the UK flag, but Boyes has the English flag. They are both English, aren't they?

We are brits tbh as at the end of day that what should be what we are known as however there is some individual that want to distingush themselves even further ie St George = England and St Andrew = Scotland therefore there no difference really but the fact is being patriot further.

It a can of old worms which i will not go into further as it can be quite explosive when people start firing their views about it.

Those that kept neutral have obviously either signed up just because UK was their inital option to avoid trouble or to cut out the competitive factor between the countires.

For those that not noticed  the Union Jack is made up of the St Andrew + St George's flag.

Gotcha. I can understand how this can be a very explosive topic to some people. Thanks for the input.

Yeah...i hadn't noticed that until after I did some research on Wikipedia on the Union Jack. I embarassed myself on this forum a couple months back when I wasn't able to identify the flag of St. George. I thought a couple of English were Finnish...lol.

Well he is Dutch isnt he? I guess I bleive that your true nationality is where you was born thats all.

No Idea but <puts web developer cap on> I wouldn't be suprised if its determined from what they submitted when they filled in application, some probably wrote or selected English and Some probably put down British. Britain of course is our true nationality as England isn't really recognized as a seperate country, well that's what we're supposed to put down on immigration cards. Britain includes England, Scotland, Wales, N Ireland and about 20 other terratories and dependancies. Most of course are now 3rd world carribean islands held onto for strategic reasons, why we didn't keep the Maldives and all move there is beyond me! :D

However in the last few years after Scottish and Welsh develution there has been a resurgence of English nationalism, with most English describing themselves as English now rather than British. In fact in the recent world cup you probably saw 9 English flags hanging outside peoples windows to every union Jack on display.

Hope that helps! :)

Where or Where?

is the schedule for today (Wednesday). Did the systems people sleep in or what?
