Grady did have much roll well for him today and unfortunately we didn't get to see him in his best form. Hope to see that turn around for him in the next event.mechanic/player said:Thanks for the updates Colin, how's Grady doing?
onepocketchump said:Regarding the break cues. From what I understand the part of the cue that hits the cueball must be made of leather, not partially leather. I altered the Fury Jump/Break cue so that it has a 100% leather tip on it and gave one each to Kelly Fisher, Austin Murphy, and Ronnie O'Sullivan (his will be there in the morning). These three shafts conform 100% to the rule as it is understood.
2.0 Cue Stick Specifications
All cue sticks must meet the following specifications:
a. No shorter than 53" and no longer than 63"
b. No lighter than 15 ounces and no heavier than 25 ounces.
c. Balance point at least 33" from the tip of the cue.
d. Leather cue tip.
Referees or IPT officials may inspect any cue at any time. If a cue that does not meet specifications is found being used by a player it will result in an immediate loss of a game or more depending on the magnitude of the offense.
I don't see anything that leaves it open to interpretation that a partially leather tip qualifies. Plus, if Earl really did start using a phenolic tip then he is a huge hypocrite. Maybe they should have a weigh-in like in horse racing to make everyone submit their stuff for inspection. Personally I thin kthat everyone should be allowed to use whatever they want as long as they are not harming the equipment or distracting the other players. I mean really, who is going to be checking balance points or weights? I bet there is not a single scale at the tournament EXCEPT for Joe Blackburn's.
John
The players usually get to have a hit on the table before the matches. Sometimes if a previous game runs long there is no time for this, but usually the table is available for 30 minutes or so for practice if a player wants to get on the table. But after the first round, most are happy to take most of the time between matches to rest.Snapshot9 said:Do players get a chance to warm up any on the table they are to play on?
Are they flipping or lagging for the break?
I would think that many players early in the morning might be down to warm up and to practice to get 2 good breaks going. I think the B&R would probably be quite a bit higher if they could side break.
It is winner breaks, right?

Colin Colenso said:btw: Our own Linda 'Rackemsucker' Carter, who showed promise all day, came up with some great pool in her last match against qualifier David Broxson by taking him to the double-hill after trailing 7-3? (or something like that). She made a few very impressive outs and gained the enthusiastic following of a small crowd of onlookers and supporters.
She would have taken that match except for a slight loss of concentration on a ball that would have left her with a relatively easy out chance.
The Queen certainly does have a good game in her and I'm glad to say we got to see some of it today.

Sorry, I dunno about that. I'll ask Grady when I see him.Bill O said:I read that Grady had a dispute with the Ref during one of his sets and was penalized, any idea what happened?
predator said:I'm very impressed with my fellow countryman Ivica Putnik. 5 break and runs against Hann. Wow. If he didn't dog that 8ball for the win agains Alcano, he would be one of the few with a perfect record. Watch out for him!

Krypto said:I looked at group 13 and saw where Lori John had a lower win percentage than another player she was tied with, but she advanced, and he was eliminated. Why did this happen? My understanding was that ties would first go to the win percentage and then to the number of break and runs / 8 ball on the breaks. Anyone??

1)Who's looking hungriest and most in form from what you've seen so far?
2)Who are the unknowns who could surprise the heck out of people and go into the latter stages, you think?
3)The pics on the IPT site appear to show a much more low-key playing environment than Orlando's glamour. How well is the tournament being run?
Thanks a bunch!![]()

1. Everyone looks pretty hungry...I couldn't guess based on that alone. Maybe Ortmann looks hungriest, but he always has that look![]()
2. Surprises in my books would be Appleton, Boyes and Hann in my book. Hann just handed Marlon his first loss...about 8-3 I think. He's getting that cocky swagger and smirkish grin happening so he'll be dangerous.
3. The room is spectacular, though seating is not idea. This is partly because they will be re-arranging the room tomorrow for the field of 60.
To Sniper,
I'll have a look for Montal in round 4 and see how he's playing.
