IPT Weert Event Results / Discussion

A shame about Robb Saez, but his day will come,. Look for him to be one of the 50 new additions to this tour in 2007, when this tour becomes an eleven event tour. Next year is when successful IPT players will have really large incomes, and I'm confident that Robb will be part of it.

I agree wholeheartedly. I know it's of no consolation to Rob right now but he's got to believe in that. I personally have no doubt that he'll be there. I would be shocked if he didn't.

I just hope that not making it this year doesn't deject him. He will need to be in dead stroke to get there next yr. ;)

Well Stevie Moore, the last American standing, was just knocked out, but that is still an impressive finish (5th I think) and I am very proud of him.

Hey cuechick,
Stevie Moore was the last USA player,
Finish position = 7/8th.
Just wish Stevie had started his quest in Marietta.

"Have a nice day",

Really tough way for Rob to get eliminated. I remember an Olympic Boxer getting eliminated under similar circumstances. These guys work so hard and to miss the opportunity of a lifetime due to a fluke is really a bad break.

I hope all that attempted to qualify receive headstarts in later qualifiers...such as byes through the first round or two. Their sacrifice, courage and commitment is highly praiseworthy.

I very much disagree with this. I do feel they are to be commended, but to give them "headstarts" in later qualifiers, that seems completely illogical to me. Would you give a sprinter a headstart at the olympics because he had been there twice before when the others hadn't? The examples could go on and on.

If you do qualify, it should be because you played better than everybody, not because you put up more money (ie entered more events). Some of these guys have sponsors, and some don't. How do you quantify their sacrifice in those cases?

Anyway, that really rubbed me the wrong way, but I do appreciate the sentiment about the players commitment.

Alcaide is playing Takami for the card on the winners side right now - both are exceptional players. Takami has beaten Foldes, Moore, Abood and Seiffert so far, which is a fabulous list of victories, so I'm just slightly giving him the edge in this one, but it should be close.

Really hoping Daryl Peach gets the other card. He was one of the first UK players to embrace the American game (and abandon UK Pool and Snooker), so it would be good to see his efforts rewarded - he lost out 10-9 to Alcaide yesterday and now Boyes has been taken out he's the only Brit left!

I guess I should have said they should be rewarded for their commitment somehow. You have a point that their reward should not be at the expense of future qualifier entrants who will also be making a courageous effort.

I think we all recognize that these qualifiers are either agony or ecstasy for the entrants, with a lot more of the former than the latter. I do wish there were more compensations available for those who get so close, but yet so far.

Then again, I guess a similar thing happens in pro golf, tennis and other sports. It's quite a mountain to climb, and few are rewarded.

Hey, Colin, is the IPT qualifier in progress right now at 8:00 a.m., Eastern Standard Time, here in the States? What is the time difference by hours?

I'm saddened to read that all five Americans have been knocked out, especially the way Rob Saez lost. As Timberly mentioned, it will be interesting to hear what actually happened upon Rob's return.

As an aside, Keith and I attended a Scruggs Tour event several years ago which had many players in attendance. There were no designated times for the matches, like there are at the IPT qualifier.

We had been on the road for a week or so and were staying right next door to Diamond Billiards in Lancaster, PA, the venue site. Keith completed his first match and won. We went up to the TD and asked him if he had any idea how long it would be until Keith's next match. I had some clothes in the washer right next door at the Fairfield Inn (within walking distance) and wanted to put them in the dryer. The TD stated to me and Keith that we had "at least an hour" before his next match.

We ventured on over to the Fairfield Inn and returned EXACTLY 45 minutes later. Believe me, I am always cognizant of match times and believed the TD when he stated we had "at least an hour" before Keith's next match.

Forty-five minutes later, we entered the front door of Diamond Billiards, and several folks came up to us and said, "What happened? Where were you? Keith has been forfeited because he wasn't here for his next match." We asked the TD about why he forfeited Keith when he said we had "at least an hour" before his next match, and he stated that he never said that to us, which was a blatant untruth. I was furious.

Because of this tragic occurrence, I always make sure we are present in the tournament room several hours in advance when an event has unscheduled match times. I think it is horrible what happened to Rob Saez, especially considering all of the monies and time he has expended to attend this IPT qualifier. JMHO, FWIW!

did they change that race to 8 because schmidt is so slow?? i would not have accepted this as a player. did the players sign contracts saying the td could change the length of the matches? remember, these guys put up 2k! id be furious if i was seiffer.

they should not change the lenth of the races, i dont care what the circumstances. guess im mad because you dont see this in other spots unless its a last resort, then again, maybe it was.

David Alcaide got the first IPT tour card. Congrats to David!

Am waiting to see who's next!

It's down to Peach the Brit versus Schmidt the German, with Takami waiting in the wings to play the winner.

Did anyone notice the new header on the IPT website with the international flags?

BTW, what in the world has happened to the LIVE scoring feature? Throughout the duration of this event, you can only look at the one-loss bracket feature. Though now that's what we're all wanting to see, I missed seeing the whole tournament bracket when it commenced.

ITs Peach vs Takami

Jam .... when viewing the empty bracket, click on it, and another window comes up with the names in it, page right and left.

Daryl Peach is making his run for the tour. Looks like Daryl picked up on a few things since the other qualifiers. I am rooting for him to get his tour
card.

My clicker must not work right (LOL). The only thing that pops up is that one-loss bracket window, but I'll give it another try. :p

The German Schmidt is out, losing to Peach 10 to 7.

Now it's a battle between Japan and Britain, with Peach in the driver's seat. Stay tuned...
