IPTers are guaranteed $13,000 in 2006!!!!!

What is a 2006 IPT Tour Card worth? So far in 2005 after just two events and, the IPT awarded historic and unprecedented prize payouts and hosted the largest paying tournament (2005 King of the Hill) in the history of billiards. IPT members in 2006 will be playing in a minimum of four events and over $8 million in prize money. Each IPT member is guaranteed at least $13,000 in prize earnings, even if they don't win a single match. IPT Members in 2006 are also going to receive monies from IPT profit sharing which has the potential to be in the tens of thousands of dollars.

In addition, the top 100 ranked players from the 2006 season automatically get to play in the 2007 season. Fifty other players must go through the grueling qualification tournament to win a 2007 tour card. Every 2007 IPT Member is guaranteed a minimum of $100,000. It is going to be much easier to be in the top 100 of the 2006 season (and win the 2007 tour card) than it will be to qualify for the 2007 IPT season through competition, so being on the tour in 2006 is quite advantageous.

Someone just called me and had to tell me about this because I skimmed the email. :p

I am concerned that there are no dates for any tournaments except the $2000 entry fee qualifiers that go on through Feb 26th.
So the first IPT tour tournament probably wont be until March or later.

I would be much more comfortable spending $2000 to qualify for tournaments that had dates and locations.

A lot of us are itching to know the schedule details.

But I look at this way. I organize events for sponsors and it is very hard to avoid delays. Delays are usually the result of increasing the scope of an event, and making sure there is enough time to prepare.

With the IPT events, my guess is they are doing as much as they can in negotiations with venues and broadcasters, and possibly sponsors, as they now have some great content to show them and evidence of their willingness to broadcast the heck out of programs so as to offer great exposure.

The faster they rush this process the less revenues will be achieved.

So, in hoping for the long term success of the IPT, I'm more than willing to let them delay things a bit so they can best establish the business side of things.

Anyway, the more practice I can get in the better.:D

Hoping for a March start, which would give me a good 300+ hours at the table and a good match up period to test my skills under pressure.

Getting four qualifiers lined up is quite a fete. Especially at this time of the year. Just making contact with the powers to be must be hard. Let alone to arrange the dates.

gotta agree with ya there jjinfla ( how do yo pronounce that?), but what...oh no.... I've just noticed a potential clash with Weert .......

Hey Linda,
Before I respond further, I request you visit www.internationalpooltour.com .
Click on "Schedule" (upper right), Scroll thru schedule, and check out payout charts of events that are not yet scheduled.

I'm not sure what you want me to look at? Your link was missing an 'N'. I looked at all the payouts for 2006. It all looked ok. What am I missing?

I mentioned this in the "IPT Qualifiers - Prize fund" thread but (unless IPT members like Colin can tell us otherwise) there is no legal contractual guarantee of anything from the IPT.

Personally I'd be happy if you would replace the word "guarantee" with words like "promised", "expected", "projected" or a qualifying phrase like "If they follow through with their current plans..."

No there was no legal contractual guarantee of any monies. According to the prize payouts posted and the email that was sent out, it looks like the projected payouts for last place will be $13,000 for 2006. He has 'promised' that in 2007, he will personally write a check for the balance to those that do not make $100k.

Thanks. I sincerely hope you and all the other Pros get to see that $100k pay-day next year. And hey, if you actually do better than last place presumably you would get more!

I must say that, the way things have gone so far, I have not regretted my decision to give up the tour card. Had I shown up for the player meeting, believing the first tourney I could play was end of January - and then found out it's being moved until at least MARCH, I'd be irate.

I know a guy (not a player) who was telling me about some of the tourneys they will have in 2008. I said, "2008?? They've already postponed the very first tournament of 2006!"

I guess I'm just not a fan of how the 107 non-KOTH players have been treated so far. They've been made to jump through hoops for this tour, and they don't even have a date anymore for their first event. I think that's a bit inconsiderate to ALL the players, as how can they plan their lives when they have no idea when they need to be away?

Anyway, I wish everyone associated with this tour the best, and I really do mean that. I'm sure that things will work out to some degree, but there appear to be some growing pains along the way.

Yes, KT has stated that if he has to write you a check for the rest of the $100k, then you aren't doing very well and will probably drop off the top 100.

It'll be a fascinating social experiment if 100 Pool Players end up with $100K+ in their pockets at the end of 2007. Somone ought to be buying the rights to make a reality TV program based on this. I can just imagine the feeding frenzy from the action community to help equitably redistribute KT's largesse!

BTW when you get your $100K the drinks will be on you :-)

Not a problem, Aunty Dan. I can do it anytime. ;)

It just goes to show that people will accept being treated poorly if they think there is some money in it for them.

Hey Linda,
I failed spelling in grade school. I have since edited my post thanks to you.

As for the $13K payout, I believe the $13K was ONLY directed to the 8 players that qualified per results of the 4 qualifier's, not entire field of 2006 tour card holders.
re: $30K to each Hall of Fame Member, no matter what position they they finished.

All I ask is for you to check the payouts shown for the unscheduled events to be held after the qualifiers.

It is, perhaps, even more incredible, Steve, that people are being asked to spend $2,000 to enter qualifiers for a tour having no tournament dates. At least for now, the message to the 142 roster members and to those attempting to qualify for the other eight is this: you must make yourself available to compete in an IPT event 52 weekends a year. It's nothing short of astonishing that so many take so little exception to this message!

Then again, these are the economics of desperation.
