Irving Crane straight pool video

Thanks for posting that. That's the first time I noticed how Irving Crane uses the bridge. Kind of a unique style, but he didn't miss a ball with the bridge. I might give that a try.

I watched about half of it, then had to restart my computer when it wanted to do a software update. I'll reload it tonight and watch the rest of it in the morning.

I caught myself laughing a few times when Mr. Crane would get out of line and bang his cue on the floor and get upset with himself. Wikipedia says he died in 2001 at the age of 88, so must have been about 73 in this match.

Wayne Norcross, house pro at DannyK's, tells stories of when he was playing in the world championships. He said Crane took a liking to him, and after his first big win, while the audience applauded, Crane told him he deserved it.

In practice, he would shoot behind his back, but in a tournament, he would use a bridge. Never shot left handed that I saw.

Is anyone else having issues viewing these video? They seem to be extremely blurry, to the point of being unviewable. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks, Dave

They were probably a home video turned in to vhs, coverted to dvd and then shrunk down to 200 mb to become an avi file.

I gave the dvds of these to Mike at AZBtv who may be able to upload a bigger version.

Otherwise, remind me next week and I'll try to convert some to 700 mb size which may solve the problem.

Johnny,
Irving "The Deacon" Crane was born on November 13, 1913 and died November 17, 2001. You're right on with your numbers.

Can you imagine just how strong a player he was in his prime? And to compete for as long as he did says a lot about his competitive fires. He was very worthy of his status as a legend in our great sport.

Not blurry, pixilated. This is a low res video.

I haven't watched the whole video yet, but so far it looks like he's using a pretty standard technique for shooting with a bridge: bridge layed down to the side, non-shooting hand resting on the bridge. With the shooting arm his elbow is up and forearm parallel to the table. I'm no expert, but that seems like the traditional way to play a shot with a bridge. What am I missing? Granted he's bending both legs in an awkward looking way, but that seems to be his normal stance, just squared up a little to the shot.
