Is a Chudy cue a good player ?

Hi there
Since I have no experience with cues from Rick Chudy at all I want to ask if
these cues are good player cues (in my particular case the BelAir) ?
For me there is no doubt that the quality of the woods and the work itself is stunning and perfect but I want to learn that this is not it.

How would you describe the difference between a Chudy cue and -for example- an expensive Schon or Joss from stock ?

Richard Chudy does great work. search the gallery for examples of his work. i'm lucky enough to live close enough to his shop that i see his cues more than a lot of others. he does great work and makes a great playing cue.

i've actually got one myself. the fit and finish are great and the playability is as good as anyone on the planet.

i think one of the little details that i really like is the RC3 he puts on the top of his pins. other interesting things i've seen from him are 1 sided veneers and his silver ring work is pretty cool too
 
here're a couple of really bad pictures of the RC3 on the pin and on the joint protector. the guy makes a good playing cue and his attention to detail really makes the difference imo.

the handle is a little thicker though. i'd say thick like a joss. i've actually got to mic mine right now so if you want i can shoot you some basic specs

Hey, your pics are better than you think they are.
But no wonder....at 6 in the morning....you probably just woke up, didn't even have a coffee an just grabbed the stick to make the pics......respect!

Do you think that even with all the new kinds of shafts the maple shaft from Chudy is competitive?

if LD shafts are your cup of tea then that's the way you should go anyway. his shafts seem to be decent shaft wood with straight grain and no run off (as far as i can tell i'm a player ,playa, not a cue maker) with a very comfortable pro ish taper.

his standard maple shafts are at least as good as everyone else's. they're not ld though and i'm not sure if he makes his own LD shafts. when i drop my shaft (i drop my shaft tip down into the cement outside my house to help break in new tips faster) they have a very nice tonk kind of tone to them when they hit the cement (the tip that is)
 
Chudy cues are Superb Players!
Do a search,
Chudy has excellent reputation for quality and Playability
 
I would agree that Richard makes an outstanding cue. His cues play great, and they are very consistent.

It's been a while since I've played with a Joss, but the new rc3 player I have does seem a bit thicker than some cue.

I don't think you'll be dissapointed if you get one of his cues. They are a great investment!

Chudy has been repairing and making cues since the 60's. a Schon is a Schon no matter how expensive it is.s

Chudy is one of the cue makers that was chosen to be displayed in the Smithsonian which is quite a honor.

I have one. The silver work in the rings and the fine lines are flawless and the cue has a nice balance and feel. You rarely see one of his cues for sale on the resale market. You will be a happy owner, more so than buying one of those production cues.

I have played with a few Chudy cues most were from the 80-90's. I still have a few of his sneaky pete cues. I love they one sided veneer cues from Rick and i think my next cue will be one of those. Im sure you would love the way his cues play.
 
I've played with the 3 cues you mentioned in your post. Joss cues tend to hit most stiff. Schon less so. Chudy cues, often using the G10 epoxy pin, have a more sensitive feel without being overly stiff. I get a lot of power from my Chudy cue but it pockets balls accurately and predictably. I am a big fan of all 3 cues you mentioned, but Chudy is by far my preference for a personal player.
 
I have played with the best of ths best and rc3 cues are one of the most consistant players on the planet.his cues are very low deflection (stiff) but without hitting hard or loud. they move the ball effortlessly. i find my self playing softer because they move the ball so effortlessly, and end up playing better. because i am not forcing the ball around!. i would put them in the top 10 of all cue makers for playibility. and with 5000 plus cuemakers making cues . you wont find a better choice dollar for dollar!

Now I own one of the best cues I´ve ever seen or played.
It must be magic being able to build such wonderful piece of art.

Nice cue buddy! i knew you'd like it. to be honest i've never met anyone whos tried one of richards cues and not liked it
 
rc3 Cues

Great Looking Cue you have there. You will not be disappointed. I have three rc3 cues myself.
 
Awesome cue man. I hit some balls with a friends Chudy Monday night and it is a great playing cue. Nice clean hit for sure!
