Is Buddy Hall still playing at all?

Does anyone know if he still plays? I know that his weight is an issue and he might not be able to last match after match in a tourny but maybe he can still play a set when he's fresh. If he's still playing, how well does he play? He was one of my favorites to watch when he was younger, he just made it look so damned easy!

He was woeking at Mcgoos in TulsOk, but quit last week and moved back to Florida. His plans now, I'm donn't know.

I watched Buddy put up a 7-pack at the 10 ball ring game at Shooter's in Olathe, KS a few months ago. Smooth as butter. I'd say he still plays.

I spoke to him maybe a wekk ago. I can't remember where he said he had moved BACK to. It could have been Kansas, Detroit or Chicago. If anyone knows where he came from thats where he is.

Mark...Buddy is not FROM any of those areas. He was living in Tampa FL prior to moving to Oklahoma.

Bobby...Playing pool at an "elite" level is not something that you 'forget' how to do. It's a lot like riding a bicycle. Once a player attains that level of play, it NEVER goes away...even if they don't play for a long time. Buddy Hall will always have the same skill level he has had for the last 3 decades. He may move slower, and may have medical problems related to obesity, but his pool skills will not diminish. As was posted above, he put up a 7 rack run recently...I'd say that speaks volumes about how well he plays.

i think you are right to a degree, he still possesses all the knowledge he once had, but there is no chance in hell that he plays as well as he did when he was at his peak. Age gets to you, no matter who you are.

I think it was stated above, obviously Buddy can still lay down a whoopin to 99.9% of the players on the planet, but I'd question his stamina throughout a multi-day or even a long single day event, not only physically but mentally.

I'm also quite certain he could give me the 1 out and still have the nuts lol.

Age doesn't matter to Scott. He is like the peter pan of pool (And I am not saying he wears tights). It doesn't matter how many years or miles he puts on, he stays the same age. Maybe that has something to do with his judgment. LOL!

He played a TAR match 7 or 8 months ago at Shooters in Olathe, Kansas if my memory serves me correctly.

Don't know what he has done since then.

Buddy could have moved back to where he is from. ( metropolis) Il.

Scott, I know they never forget how to play but for some reason the top pros, as they get older have their game drop a little for whatever reason. Otherwise they'd be winning titles all their lives. But as someone mentioned he ran a 7 pack so i guess he still has his game.

He is from Paducah Kentucky. I spent a week there one day...lol

Buddy is one of my all time favorite players and a personal Mentor. His presence around the golf table at McGoo's will be dearly missed. What a great smooth stroke.

A friend of Buddy's sent me this email.

"Randy, FYI, I just checked out AZBilliards forum and there was a question about Buddy leaving Tulsa. Yes he did. He and his wife moved back to Metropolis. Buddy really likes Tulsa but his wife wanted to go back to be close to family....I can understand that. The Golf game at Magoo's sure misses him. -Eddie"

Another chapter closed, another started....SPF=randyg

Are you kidding?
Quote Scott,

"but his pool skills will not diminish."

That is the dopiest statement I think I have read in a long time.

You are the only person who has ever used 'dopiest' on AZB. I have now eradicated your claim to that, like one would any termite or roach...

I don't really get your meaning. It refers to idiotic. Are you going to tell me you believe a player never loses their skills as they age also?
I will stick with my original opinion. Not only do their skills diminish but their competitive skills as well. I have seen past champions, once great players, wilt under the pressure of some young Turk who would rather play pool then eat. Young hungry players are killers in all sports and the old timers may still seem to have something left but just don't stand up anymore. It is nothing to be ashamed of, everyone gets old.
