Is giving away promotional copies considered spam?

I've noticed that a few companies are giving away promotional material on this forum (free t-shirts and such) in exchange for exposure.

Is this sort of thing welcome here, or is it considered spam?

I have some good ideas for a similar campaign for Mika's new DVD series, but want to see how everyone feels about it before I take action. I guess I should also PM Mike about it before I get the ball rolling.

Thoughts anyone?


*EDIT* You guys are missing the point of this thread. I'm not handing out free copies (yet). Im asking if it's acceptable to do promotions on here.

Consider your signature as promoting your product/business.
If you want to sell there is a Wanted and For Sale section.

A free dvd offer in the main section should get no complaints but outright sales should
really be reserved for the appropriate section of the forum
