is it dangerous to put my case inside of the checked-in luggage?

I have packed a cheaper cue in a cheap case inside a large packed and checked bag - no problem. Would I check a cue worth more than $300- no, not me, some others do it, but I just would not trust. You can get a very nice playing Schmelke SP cue for well under $200 and you would have no cue excuses for missing a shot at your destination point billiard room:)
 
The last time I took my cue to Vegas I literally just checked in my soft butterfly case. Lol I put my socks down the middle of it. Wrapped the tips and the ends in bubble wrap. Put a little padlock on the zipper and sent it. Not a single issue. Now I can tell you I only play with predator cues now. If I was still playing with any of the high end cues I used to play with I might have thought twice. I would pack my cue case in my suit case with no worries.

Yes, I won't be playing a lot, I'm traveling for medical reasons with my mother so I am going to stay a lot in the hospital and our stay depends...I could be there for a month or two, or maybe more.....so me taking the cues is just in case we stay for longer periods and if I 1) Get bored enough to want to shoot pool & 2) I find a good pool hall next to where I am staying there.......So outside of hospital appointments, I might be free or with my mother, but in the grand scheme of things I don't know I've never traveled for this type of matter before.

I usually travel for vacation and fun times for a few weeks & I have never taken a cue with me before, but in this case, it's different and the stay may be long so who knows.
 
Thanks for all the answers. All points are taken I've decided to just put my 1x1 case in my checked-in luggage. Its not about the price but I love that cue, the butt is Mike Gullyasy beautiful piece & the shaft is revo which I think plays differently to all other revos. It's the only Revo shaft that I liked, it states 12.4 mm on but when I measure it, its measured to be 12.3 mm, it had to be one of the early produced shafts from predator because after that all the 12.4 mm revo's that I could find & measure with my tool are somewhere between 12.4 to 12.55 && I know with shafts there is always discrepancy and never perfect measure which is fine but for Revo predators the 12.4 always comes between 12.4 to 12.55

As I said mine is the only one that's 12.3mm which is beautiful and I like it. Once I tried to ask seyberts to check their 12.4mm revos to see if one could have the margin of error & be a 12.3mm shaft, they couldn't find one.
 
Jack Stenner from here in N.C. had his beloved Schon stolen out of his suitcase on a flight. He put up a handsome reward, went all out against the airline and in the end never saw that cue again. Then there are folks that I know that fly with cues made with ivory internationally and have never had an issue .

The best option is to have an old beater cue that you’re used to for traveling and go that route when needed. I see little sense in risking a nice high end cue flying or leaving in a car or anything or place anyone can think of. JMO and that is what I do ..

Or, just have a cue for travel.

My original “travel cue” was a five point Gina but over the years the potential pain threshold on that got too high. So now I have two travel cues. A three/piece Sheldon LeBow with a custom Chas case, and a John Davis blank finished by Drexler which travels in a 1x2 Whitten. Both are to my specs to match the “girls” (my two Gina’s) and before traveling I just practice with one of them for a few days.

I’d be sad to lose either… but not Gina sad.

I've taken my cue all over the world on airplanes over the past 20 years. It will fit in many regular suitcases on a diagonal. No issues.
 
I can't think of a better way to fly with a cue than have a big suitcase, check, with your cue, in a hard case inside it.

Me, I drive in my first-class seat in my Acura, wherever I want to go. But I recommend the big suitcase for planes.

Sheldon Lebow and Andy Gilbert. I had two shafts made for each. The Lebow is built on my Schuler specs. The Gilbert is built like a Gilbert. Everyone could play well with either of these.

Both cases built by JBCases.

I pack in a standard 2 X 4 hard case, then a travel case. I carry it through security and have found they do not always ask me to check the bag.

On four occasions I was asked to check the bag just once. One of those times security searched the case and examined the cues, then cleared me lol

this can cost you considerable time if they send you back to check the bag, at Pearson airport its easy to gauge this

if i was a top pro I would probably have 2 sets and ship one

New Rules? The airlines have not allowed cues on their flights since the regulations were changed after the 9/11/2001 attacks. The rules have been around a couple of decades. To answer your question. I travel with a baseball/softball equipment duffle. It has enough roof for several days worth of clothing and has a separate compartment intended to hold bats but normal length cue cases fit great. Never had a problem.

And to check a full-sized cue I use this bag -- it's great for a short trip because there's enough room inside to also pack a couple of shirts and underwear.

i dont recommend checking in anything with an airline that you would miss/be pissed about if damaged or lost. I bought a nice, brand new luggage roller for my last trip, and it looked like the staff played football with it after my trip, and they were direct flights to and from, so it didnt change hands very much. Broken wheels, black scuff marks all over. If you absolutely had to bring the cue, I would ship it to the destination with tracking and insurance with the shipper you trust the most.

I use a softball bag like this also, works great!
