Is it even worth it?

I want a pool table in my house sooooo bad! Mainly so I can practice jump shots and masse, which I can't do at the pool hall. The problem is that the largest table I would be able to fit in the available room would be a 6 footer and I would have to use 48" cues (according to online info). I am working with a 14'x12' room. My question is, is a setup like this even worth investing in? Will it take away the fun of the game? Am I just throwing money away or would it be good enough to practice on? Is it even worth it?

Sure you don't have the room for what you want to do? How long is your jump cue, keeping in mind you're jacked up? And for masse shots the limiting factor is more a question of the height of the ceiling, not how far to the wall.

I wouldn't do it.
I've had two friends in that situation...they had the table jammed into
a corner so they had 1 side and 1 end to shoot from.
It helped their stroke a lot but they couldn't play any normal games...
...and they both got rid of them.
Do some renovations.

yes it is worth it

I would have to consider shoving the table in a corner and getting a seven foot table and using full sized sticks but I'm of the opinion that hitting balls on almost any table gains you a lot. When I was fifteen I bought a junk 4x8 sears table used, paid more for a good set of balls than the table, and had something to hit balls on at home. Helped my game a lot even hitting balls into buckets on a crappy table.

I credit a very tough old snooker table for putting the final polish on my game. Practicing on it several hours a day vastly improved my aim and speed control, even how I played patterns. However it probably played more differently than a regular pool table than your six footer will if you go that route.

One thing, if you get a home table you still need to get on the tables you normally compete on at least several times a week. Often I shot on four completely different size or types of tables on the same day. If you are serious about the game you always gain by being able to hit balls any time you take a notion, doesn't matter what the table is.

put an 8 foot table against the short wall. then you can still shoot the long way and many of the side rail shots and also may have the doorway into the room to add.
draw it out you can see.

Not worth it.

You live in Balmer - go to a different pool hall.

-OR-

Go to a bar with a decent box to practice.

Not worth it at all.

I have a couple friends who jammed tables into their houses in rooms too small. Both are gathering dust right now or being used as laundry tables.

6 footers arent that bad, I have one as a second table in my living room. Get a table cover for it and the woman wont hate you as much.

If you truly love practice drills and dont care that you would never be able to play a real game on it, then OK to push one into the corner.

Bar box bed

I knew a novice player in Oklahoma City whose mother gave him a choice of a bar box or a bed, as the apartment was small. So he chose the bar box and put bedding down on the bed to sleep on it!

I bought a 7 foot table cause thats all I had room for, I rarely use it because I shoot on a 9 foot at the pool hall, I think it is a bad idea because the shots/ distances are different. I enjoy the 9 foot table much better. I did see a 6 foot table recently and it looks like a toy table. much much to small. I played on a 6 by 12 last month and it felt like so huge. very challenging table. I dont have room for one like that! wish I did. Just join your local Elks lodge, they mostly all have billiard rooms with free pool and its not expensive at all. check it out..
Many other great benifits and great people as well..

Don't see where in this case the size of the table is that important since the OP said it was going to be used primarily for practicing masse and jump shots that he cannot practice at his local room.

if you go into it knowing what your limitations and abilities will be from the setup, there's no reason you can't get a little out of it. Just as was stated above, you'll be able to practice jumping just fine, and if you push it into a corner as suggested you can practice a lot of things short of a full game.

Just an alternative to consider - why not try and get some scrap cloth and cut it into squares, you can put the cueball on it and practise all the jumps/masses you want at the pool hall and not leave any marks in the table.

A lot more cost effective and you won't have any regrets either... :)

I play about 5 days a week, and would love to play more. In my last house I had this scenario and got to a point where I never really played because it just wasn't a lot of fun. If u want it just for drilling and working on your stroke than it would be fine, but if you want to play, then I think you will end up disappointed.

I think once I come across a deal on a Valley I will put it in the corner and just use it for drills and jumps.
