Is it true that many pool rooms offer free table time to league players?

3... 8 footers , and Free Pool to Everyone at the Pub I go to , both Sunday and Monday , all day till 2 am .

The room closest to me is $10 per hour. If you are a APA or VNEA league member I think that goes to $5 per hour. However, if you are a "regular" there, they basically don't charge table time. When I first went there I was considered "good" or something, and the owner was very welcoming and told me I didn't have to pay table time. Now I'm sponsored by that place, and also play on an APA team out of there. I try my best to promote the room. Long before any sponsorship or anything, I made a point of getting my dinner there, buying drinks, tipping very well, and putting tips on the owners many cues for free. I suppose for this room it is kinda easy to do free pool, because it is a Chinese restaurant on the other half, you can get that full menu in the pool room, and they have full liquor and a decent size bar that is often full with non pool players. Its actually a very nice room, and they have been in business for like 40 years with the restaurant, and about 8 years with the pool room. Maybe 7...they were actually on the cover of Billiards Digest in the best new pool rooms issue in like 2009. They are obviously doing something right!

KMRUNOUT

A lot of places offer free pool time if you buy lunch. This really nice bar/billiards/restaurant in Evansville IN called O'brians has (or had) a deal where you get free pool from 11 till 3pm if you ordered lunch (which came out to about $10, and was really good by the way). Sadly, not many players ever came in in the day time, so I usually had to shoot by myself.

When you join a team how are you gonna get there to play or practice? As far as I know you won''t be able to get your drivers license until you turn 16. Also some places you cannot get in until you're 21. Meanwhile, hang in there and keep posting questions, you have many fans !!!

Lol, I wish I could think of a good reply to that.

You should never expect " players " to be there at that time. Most probably just went to bed a few hours earlier .

One place I played league on Sunday's opened an hour before league started and table time was free to us. There were usually a few tables free that you could practice on even while league was playing out but if a paying customer came in you were bumped. They also had a few extra tables downstairs you could play on as well. Same rules applied.

While that seems nice, I typically did not practice while our team was playing. Being the higher handicap, I typically took care of time outs, score keeping and some captaining duty as necessary.

Nothing worse than chasing down a player to play and they make you wait until they finish their practice game to start their match. Keep in mind, people usually have to work the next day.

One other item, they did also offer a lunch special from about 11-1ish. An hour of pool, a sandwich, chips and a soda for $6 on the weekdays. It's a pretty good deal if you ask me.

Revolutions, formerly Fast Eddies in VA has "free" pool on weekends if you spend $8 on food. It runs from like 12-5. I think Hard Times, around the corner has a similar deal.

Last year I was at Trick Shots in Orlando. The guy I was playing with said league players
could play for free. When I checked out they said "No charge, you were playing with Joe"

.

I see this thread taking a different direction in a few pages.

"So I joined a league, and started to play free pool, but the cloth was worn down, and there were only 2 pieces of chalk per table" "Plus, it was winner stay, and there was a huge line of people for free pool" "The tables weren't as level as I'd like"

That is 11 am till 3 pm (not 11 pm till 3 am), and I understand that most would actually be at their day time jobs, except maybe during the weekends.

I am curious if you are a player known as "strong arm John". I heard that he is from Indy, and he was known to be a very good arm wrestler. Very good pool player too. I used to see him in Cape Girardeau MO sometimes when I was there (back in the 90's). I did not know him though, and never even met him. Heard a lot of cool stories about him. From your user name on here, I thought you might be him.

Okay, I understand now what you meant. Well, there really are not many real players (that I knew of anyways) in Evansville. Only a few who I would call solid A players. Maybe all of the real players played in a private home somewhere (that is what a guy told me who is from Evansville).

Huh???? Lol, are you for real? Lololol

I am in two BCA leagues. One pool hall offers free pool Sunday, Monday and Tuesday to league members and two dollar pool the rest of the week till 7 P.M. The other pool hall offers unlimited free pool to league members every day of the week.

Blue Fin Billiards (Fresno, CA)

None of the pool halls in Fresno offer free play just because you play in a league.
League players get to practice free before the league starts for an hour of free play.
Some pool room owners are more flexible and let you practice for free that day only.

The best deal I've seen introduced is the Monthly Membership at Blue Fin Billiards.
Tommy Hill has structured the membership at Blue Fin to have two participation levels.
Silver: unlimited play 11 am - 7 pm ........Gold: unlimited play (11 am) to close (2 am).

There are also other fringes on becoming a member but for purposes of this thread & my post,
what likely is of interest to most Azers.is the amount of play allowed with monthly memberships.
I think it is great because this helps promote and kindle a private billiards club environment....JMO.

Hard Times in Bellflower has a $70.00 a month membership that allows free play between 11AM & 6PM Mon - Friday.

Blue Fin Billiards charges $30/mth for playing between 11 am and 7 pm........seven (7) days a week........Best friggin' deal around.

I often wondered why more poolrooms don't follow a membership model. Maybe they assume pool players will play the same amount or more and they'll lose potential table time money. In general though people don't use memberships enough to make up the difference.
