Is Josh Filler the best European player of all time?

I'd put Filler as the all time best European player, but that's only because Gorst is now a de facto American. 🇺🇸
LOL, Gorst's resume of titles is pretty small compared to that of Josh. Each has two WPA sanctioned world championships and each has won a US Open, but that's about where the comparison ends with respect to the majors. Josh has three China Open 9ball titles, a World Game 9ball gold medal, a UK Open title, and a European Open title, and Fedor has not won any of them.

Gorst is awesome, a future hall of famer for sure, and he is still getting better, but it is time wasted to compare with Filler, who has achieved so much more.

he can rub people the wrong way, he did it when he was a teenager at eurotour events too. i get that, but it's not malice, it's the signs of an ultra competitive person in a competitive situation. after the dust has settled / the match is over he's often nice and (nowadays) well spoken. filler's antics aren't anywhere near those of earl's or even ronnie o'sullivan's, yet their antics don't detract from their achievements imo
i played Joshua back in 2018 at European championships 3 months before he became world 9b champion. I lost 8:9 and I enjoyed every second of it. Joshua was 100% respectful towards me during the match, he acknowledged my good shots but also he was very passionate about his good shots - and i see nothing wrong with that. To me Joshua simply loves the game to the extent where he enjoys entertaining both himself and the audience. It may rub some people the wrong way but to me it is THE most honest way to play pool if you are an entertainer in your heart😉 The same applies to Jayson Shaw🤗

Good morning all, was just having a discussion with someone at the hall about this and he feels that Josh Filler is without a doubt the best euro player ever. I myself still think Darren Appleton, during that time where he was winning everything, is probably the best all time with Jayson Shaw still in contention considering how much he still has left in the tank.

What do you guys think?
Are you talking pool and not snooker because Ronnie Sullivan is the stone cold nuts. IMO.

Does the name Sir Raymond Ceulemans (3C) ring a bell! If we include all cue games, including Snooker!

He is the best player today, in my opinion, and the social media trolls and bullies made a big mistake, again, in my opinion, trying to alienate him and castrate him in public. Matchroom dropped him like a hot potato when this happened. Everybody is entitled to their opinion about him changing his mind, but I am of the opinion that he is entitled to change his mind and do as he damn well pleases. It's his life, his pocketbook, and his pool career, and as such, he can be the captain of his own ship.
Pardon my ignorance, but what exactly happened? I have not followed much of anything related off of the tables for months now.

Filler’s dominance seems way stronger to me than Appleton’s best years. (I think both Neil’s and Mika were stronger than Appleton anyway).

Mark me down for filler being the best ever European.

yea maybe. but niels never won the US open, whereas darren and mika both won back to back US opens.

Ceulemans won 21 world championship at billiards and would have been the right answer in a snooker forum thread, but the main forum is about pool.

is filler the best of all time?
no
Might well be by the time he hangs up his cue. Already top ten of all time, with at least one of each of the World 9ball, World 8ball, World Games, US Open, China Open, UK Open, European Open. Outside the majors, he has won the American 14.1, the Derby City Master of the Table, the World Pool Masters, the World Cup of Pool, and he has won double digit gold medals an the Eurotour.

Filler has dominated our sport in every corner of the world, excelled in every pool discipline, and is as decorated a player as there is in the game today (other than Souquet).

Still, while Josh is already on the short list of the best of all time, Willie Mosconi, with 19 World Championships, will likely occupy the top spot for the foreseeable future. Best of all time in the 9ball era? I think that's quite possible,

Every era in every sport has a name to be considered the greatest. It changes with time.

Filler is a great player, but if he was around 20-30 years ago, I doubt that he would have been that great or at least that dominant. I think that the pro field back then was bigger and stronger, with many legends of the game being at their top form, and there was one European to maintain a higher level than most Europeans – Ralf Souquet.

I feel that today there are very strong pro players, but at the top, there are fewer players than 20 years ago holding the same high level of game, so the competition was greater. Not to mention that the equipment today is better and makes it easier than it was 20-30 years ago.

But maybe it's the opposite; maybe these legends of the game would not be able to compete well in today's field. We will never know.
Youre not serious are you?
