is jumping allowed in APA?

Yes you can jump but not with the short cue. Also you cannot switch cues mid rack to jump with your break cue. Whichever cue you use for your first shot after the break is the cue you must use to finish the rack.

They make cues that are regular length that weigh about the same as a jump cue to make it legal for this reason.

For all intents and purposes you cannot jump with a jump cue. It is against the rules unless you want to play with said cue.

Just curious after seeing you post a few caustic remarks about APA and APA players?

APA players are numerous, they buy cues, tables, and other pool related equipment. They follow professional tournaments and in general, through sheer numbers, support the hell out of pool, pool rooms, and bars with pool tables. Why the hate? Do you believe the pool community would be better off in some way without us poor to mediocre players? And does hating on APA and APA players advance the game in some way I don't understand?

Don't worry, I'll write him up on the back of my next score sheet and give him a 1 in sportsmanship!

The APA is a perfect league for a beginning player to an expert player. The population of APA players in my area is so large that I rarely ever have to travel more than 5 miles for a league night. You've got to start somewhere and for me, the APA was a terrific way for me to get addicted to pool. :)

My knock on the APA is not the players, its the LEAGUE. They make ridiculous rules, and discourage any one to reach a REALLY HIGH level of play. I also disapprove of there ruling with jump sticks and stupid rules about changing or breaking down a cue mid match. It's all very silly. Though I encourage beginner players to play these leagues because they are great for just that, almost every one I know that plays APA gets out of it once they start playing to good to be on their team due to handicap max.

The APA really could be a great league, they just aren't in my eyes NOW.

In all honesty, I am for what ever puts more cues in hands, and balls in pockets. EVERY league has it's pluses and minuses, so you pick you poison. I choose a different one, not that VNEA or BCA is any better.

Best,

Justin

Didn't we go through this all about a month or two or three ago? Then the ridiculous question came up about "What if my regular playing cue is a jump cue?" Geeze, that thread went on for a few weeks if I'm remembering correctly. C'mon now, lets' don't be silly.

JJ misread SD9's post, which stated the playing cue is the cue you use for the first shot after the break. Iirc, JJ also plays APA(or at least did), so he's not really a hater, was just poking at something he misread. As for playing with a shorty, I believe there are length restrictions, though I may be wrong.

You can use a dedicated break cue. You can change cue during a match actually... you just can't change to a jump cue

Ummmm, appears you lack a sense of humor as well. I said I was kidding....I like to yank "justadub" chain once in awhile...cause I know he is a big supporter of the APA.

but unless you really believe I thought APA players do not play with cues... geez. Oh, by the way, I play in the APA as well. Don't like the rules much, but I play a few sessions a year.......

I have seen lots of people jump in the APA. Up and down when they throw tantrums.....:rotflmao1:
