Is Kamui medium as hard as a Sniper?

It is what it is...

I've been using Sniper tips for sometime now and i do like how they play.

But i've been hearing so much about the Kamui tips. I was thinking about buying one to try. I don't want to get one that is softer then a Sniper.

If you've played with both please let me know what you think.

thanks,

Kamui Vs, Sniper

I tried Snipers after being a Moori quick fan for a long time. I went right back to Moori. Recently, I did a major re-tip of several cues with Kamui Hard, Medium, and Moori Quicks. I honestly cannot tell the difference between my Kamui Hard or Medium and think they are both harder than the Moori Quick tip which is harder than the Sniper. I am thinking of tryng a Kamui Soft to get somewhere between a Moori Medium and Quick for a masse' shaft. A lot of people like Snipers; I guess I am just not that big on them. I just know Kamui is definitely harder.

I agree. I have a Kamui med on a 314-2 and it feels hard. It seems Kamui has a med soft version beside soft. Right? If you like Sniper, maybe you can try the med soft first.

even the kamui medium soft is harder, than a sniper.
kamui soft is nearly as soft as the tiger sniper. but better imho.

I have a Kamui Medium Soft on my shaft now that I had installed yesterday and it is harder than the Sniper that i had on from what I remember a few years ago. I can say that the Kamui puts a little more needed action on my cb. I just took a Milk Dud off my cue that I was absolutley in love with just to try the Kamui because i had heard so much about it and so far so good. If things do not work out I can always go back to the Milk Dud which was really really good.

Has one of the major retailers actually done a test?

The reason I ask is because what someone thinks by feel could be be very subjective. Example, many people thought the Everest was harder than the Sniper and that isn't true

Larry Nevel uses a Kamui soft, seems to work for him...

apart from the fact, that there always will be differences, cause it's a natural product.

Interesting

Thanks for the info.

How many options are there with the Kumai?
ex hard, hard, med...etc

I never viewed the sniper as a soft tip. I always figured it has a med hard. I'm glad to see how others compare it to the Kamui's. this will help me get the one i think i'd like the best.

There are soft, med soft, med, and hard.

I just received a new Predator shaft with the Everest on it and suprisingly, it's clearly harder than the 1/2 worn Sniper I have on my original (same exact shaft). Swear to god! :D

I've got three Kamui tips, soft, med soft, and medium in a little plastic bag that I ordered with the shaft as well. My plan is to start with the soft on the new shaft and put a new Sniper on the original. Unfortunately there's only one guy I know who I trust to do a great job and it may take a few days to track him down and get it done.

I know a new Sniper starts a little soft and firms up with time and the same thing might happen with the Kamui, I don't know. It'll probably take at least a few weeks to know for sure.

I moved from Moori to Kamui hard and never looked back. Best tip I ever used, compresses evenly, does not mushroom, holds chalk, and can spin the ball a lot if you need to do that. Great tips.

Troy at allaboutthegameroom.com has very good prices on Kamui tips.

In another thread on Kamui tips a poster described their relative hardness as below. It seems to differ somewhat from the experience you're relating.

Just so everyone knows. Generally:

The Kamui Hard is equivalent to the Moori Hard;
The Kamui Medium is equivalent to the Moori Medium;
The Kamui Medium-Soft is equivalent to the Moori Soft;

And the Kamui Soft is slightly softer than the Moori Soft.

I have played with every tips there is out there in the market. My personal favorite is the Kamui Medium-Soft.

The Kamui tips "seem" to stay on the cue ball a little longer than normal (Other people have told me this too). So far, none of them have mushroomed, and they seem to hold chalk very well.

I was told that research and developments are being made to enchance the quality of the Kamui tips. A friend ;) told me that the new Kamui tips will be tested and made in a science lab.

Mike.

Absolutely different.

My experience is just that... from experience using both Moori Medium and Moori Quick (hard) tips for several years and then switching to Kamui Medium and Hard.
Maybe he is quoting something or has had a different experience. I just know that my Kamui Medium tip is like a rock compared to amy old Moori Mediums. Maybe I have defective or mismarked Kamui tips.

Just got back from having a couple new tips put on. One shaft a new Sniper and the other a Kamui soft. I know there's going to be a break in period, but for what it's worth, the new Kamui soft is just a little bit softer than the new Sniper. Both on identical 314-2 shafts.

I brought the three Kamui tips, soft, med soft, and medium with me and asked the cuesmith which Kamui would be most like the Sniper and he said the med soft. I wanted to try something a little softer than the Sniper so on the soft Kamui went. I was surprised how similar the two hits were. I was switching back and forth and I had to keep looking at the tip to make sure which one I was hitting. There was definitely a difference, but it was relatively minor.

If something changes with these tips over time I'll post something, but otherwise that's about a good a test I'll be able to do. :D

My opinion, stay with the Sniper. I tried the medium Kamui and it feels rock hard to me. I love the way Snipers play after the first week or two.

I've climbed both. Everest was definitely harder. The Kumbu Ice Falls are a b **ch.

I've had a Sniper for about 6 months after using Kamui Hard tips for about 2 years. I only went with the Sniper because my cue mechanic was all out of Kamui Hard tips at the time. I have to say the Sniper seems harder than the Kamui was, and frankly too hard for my taste. (If it matters I have it on an OB-1 shaft.) It doesn't seem to have changed any much over time.

If it wasn't for the fact that it's barely worn down any I'd have replaced it with another Kamui by now. It does certainly mushroom a very little bit over time, whereas the Kamui's never did this at all as far I could tell.

Kamui's are good wearing (definately better than Talisman Pros in my experience) but the Sniper just seems to want to outlast the shaft itself. If you only like to replace your tip every decade or so the Sniper is for you!

JMHO, YMMV.
