In this video Karl Boyes "reviews" a cheap carbon fiber shaft from China. A few "pearls" coming out of his mouth:

- He refers to deflection as "throw"?!
- Carbon shafts have low deflection because they are "stiff"?!
- He refers to the tactile sensation of the shaft not gliding easily as matt /matte?!
- He roughens the tip with coarse sandpaper and he proceeds to do the same to the entire side of the tip?!

A lot of players don't know that much about the tech side of cues/shafts. Most Brits don't give a flying fk unlike all the equipment obsessed newbs/hacks on some forums(hint-hint). If you wanna play him some i'll contact him. He answers pretty quik to fb messages. ;)

Let the man work!

He'd prob say square cues are the best for the right $$!

I've shot with a guys sq shaft. It really wasn't that bad except for the accumulated nicks it gathered over the 30 years or so he had it. No closed bridge with it though. Ha ha

I think he is just fine. Also he is a solid player and has every right to express his opinions as does the OP.
Although I would not go full on over it either way..

i literally dont give a shit about carbon fiber shafts ect ....

most of the social influencers only are doing it for money .....

if you shoot like god with a tooth pick .... who cares about what someone says about a cf shaft

let's be honest ... if it is cheap from China I probably wouldn't expect much out of it

My first game was on a 6 X 12 snooker table….we use the terms ’throw’ or ‘push’ and they make sense….no deflection on y’self.

When I watched that video, I noticed he described some things in ways I would have considered different if not outright inaccurate. Creating a thread just to call out those differences is a bit pedantic and to suggest he might be a complete moron comes off as high self aggrandizing, like you’re trying to make yourself look smart by calling him dumb. I don’t think that’s a good look.

I heard him say throw in regard to a straight in he was shooting and then refer to the deflection of the shaft so pfft. Temu sounds reasonably safe except for subsequent privacy.

I think Karl demonstrated some of the differences between American vocabulary and UK/snooker. The technical terms in particular had separate development, like "throw" and "kick". He's not wrong, he's just speaking from a different dictionary.

Another: corner hooked = angled.

three things:

1. CF shafts play better than wood by about 10-15% (meaning it takes 10-15% less effort to move the CB around).
2. CF shafts become smoother over time playing with them everyday (they're pretty slick to start with, some brands more so than others).
3. UK drives on the wrong side of the road, so, using words the wrong way is to be expected. :)

What I'd call squirt.

What do you call the object ball being moved offline by its impact with the CB?

Is your pool vocabulary a Canadian thing?

We’re sorta bilingual because of our snooker background…..li‘s a complicated thing, ball collisions have different consequences depending on different speeds and thickness of cloth. I feel pool has enhanced our vocabulary but snooker terms have some merit also.
