Is the BCA doing enough?

I would make it mandatory for all board members to know/understand all history general rules, etc. of the BCA and take a test before final consideration/vote is given too the board too become a member. One needs to have a overall understanding of the industry first, only then could they help the game move in a positive direction.

1. I would separate the BCA from the BCA league...a governing body should not associate with any particular league. Maybe change the name of the BCA league.

2. I would put more pressure on the industry bigs to contribute more to the amateur end; more importantly juniors. If these companies want a return on investment, invest in the youth... they will payback for a lifetime.

3. I would put all lot more resouces into the BEF. I would put an emphasis on interscholastic and intercollegiate competition. Putting tables and instruction in high schools and in more colleges so these kids don't have to play in shady pool halls all the time.

4. Take the above two divisions (juniors and collegiate) and create national competition and push for these events to be televised.

5. I would collaborate with all leages in America (BCA, APA, TAP, etc) and create a unified rulebook. Its tough to unify the billiard community when they are playing to a different tune.

6. After creating stronger relationships with all amateur and pro leagues I would establish the BCA as the ESPN correspondant that would help get billiards on TV. Individual leagues and series shouldn't have to go to ESPN or Fox Sports Net; the BCA should do that for the various championships out there.

7. I would work with the WPA and provide a stronger, more unified influence on the IOC. The BCA needs to step up and contribute to the Olympic cause if anyone ever wants to see Cuesports in the Olympics.

8. I would set up insurance for pro-players payments. I think the BCA should be an integral part in supporting our pros. I would also like to see the BCA become more involved in sponsoring various pro events and demos. I think the pros need to be payed much more. You get a few high-profile pros out there...in the media mix and etc.... that could bring attention to other pros... and hopefully to the sport as a whole too.

9. I would divide the BCA into divisions so that there was a commitee running the industry side, a comitee running the tournament and tour side, and a division dedicated to the players. I would leave the BEF as a separate entity (and give much more support)

10. I would listen.... there are an endless amount of great minds out there who can contribute...who are willing to contribute... its about time the BCA starts to use these valuble resources.

So where do I apply? Yes I know that I have no chance at a job like this but I am only 21... maybe someday I can have a chance to make a difference...who knows?

I believe that 7 out of 10 have been done.....randyg

PS: Unified Rules, no way. I like the slight differences.

I was asked to speak before the board this past meeting in Boulder. They had no podium for me as a speaker and my presentation was affected. I have gotten fNO response or thank you for coming, NOTHING, and it was funny, I name dropped Paul Huebler during my presentation, to my surprise, many had no idea who this great man was. I think it should be MANDATORY for all board members to read, and test out on the history of the game and the BCA history BEFORE they are allowed to represent the industry.

Here I go. Don't get mad Bill.

Island Ddrive has been involved with the BCA in the past for some time and has also been a great player for many, many years. I would have been very curious to have heard his presentation because he is exactly the type of person this game needs. He is sharp and will, if asked, speak his mind.

I would reveal his name, but, I fear his reach too much and I don't duck like I used to.

Really? Which ones and how? Like I said I'm young so I would like to really grasp what they successfully do.

My wish list for BCA Members would be a Monthly, Bi-Monthly, or Quarterly Magazine to the 60.000 Members of the BCA.

FYI the 60,000 is a number of League Players that I have been told BCA has, and collect LEAGUE FEES ON.

If that number is TRUE, and I did say IF! I see Zero Reason the BCA could not pull of a Magazine, and attract Consume Orientated Corporation to be the ?Official? this or that of the BCA.

Also I would think that the BCA could Partner with other in the Billiard Industry, Plus Hotels & Motels, Rent A Cars, etc. to offer BCA Members Discounts, or as the Corny Line American Express use to throw out, Membership has Privileges.

The BCA and BCA Pool League (BCAPL) are TWO DIFFERENT entities.

Cocobolo Cowboy thinks the league (which does have over 60,000 members at each year end) - should send out between 4 and 12 magazines each year.

This would be a terribly expensive thing to accomplish. Our $10 per year membership fee would not be enough to pay the writing, printing and mailing costs. So I guess all the other things we do should just stop happening.

Maybe he thinks we should charge more. Many have tried to bring corporate America to the table - no one has been very successful. With all of the internet content available on an immediate basis, I feel a magazine would not be feasible.

Mark...Since CooCoo is so cheap, he rubs nickles together to start fires, and the last time he actually SPENT money on pool (other than the quarter he spends at the senior center) was probably 30 yrs ago, his opinion shouldn't carry much weight with you...imo of course! Please keep on doing what you're doing, for the betterment of our sport!
